Champions League - 2004/5 (merged)

Re: Champions League - 2004/5

AC Milan 1 - 0 ManU Milam go through 2 - 0 on aggregate. Typical and clinical Italian performance :k:

** Lyon 7 - 2 Werder Breman ** Lyon go through 10 - 2 on aggregate. A Champions league record.

Re: Champions League - 2004/5

Barca & Man U out :teary2:
Why dont they just give the trophy to Milan now :frowning:
I cannot believe Eto missed that :crying:

Re: Champions League - 2004/5

^ That was an open goal. Etoo who claimed that he will make Chelsea pay for not buying him must be utterly disappointed. Dont think that milan are the sole favorites though. Real, Juve, Chelsea, all in with equal shout and dont forget Lyon. They are in superb form.

Chelsea have Cech to thank for three brilliant saves in second half. He is right up there with Casillas, Buffon and Dida.

Re: Champions League - 2004/5

chelsea v barca’ one of the finest games’ i have seen for a while. this game had it all, fast paced football, early goals, amazing skills by ronaldhino and a cracker of a goal by ronaldhino, u guyss ee it,a toe packer with no back lift at all, surrounded by 3 defenders, simply awesome, this guys is a genious no doubt. in the end it got all ugly in the tunnel with some barca’ players loosing their cool and chelski r through. well played indeed all the way :insha: to champioons of europe.

Re: Champions League - 2004/5

Liverpool defeated Leverkusen 3 - 1 away from home to qualify and PSV defeated Monaco 2-0 away to qualify. Arsenal are (once again) out of Champions League after defeating Bayern Munich by one goal when they needed two.

Juve equalized the aggregate and game is now in extra time.

Re: Champions League - 2004/5

I think the Juve - Madrid game will be decided on penalties!

MM

Re: Champions League - 2004/5

^ Not really. Zalayetta scored five minutes before extra time finished. If real doesnt score in last minutes they are out.

Re: Champions League - 2004/5

** Real Madrid are out of the champions league as Juve beat them 2 - 0 **

It was a pain to see Real Madrid playing defensive football throughout. It is just not their nature and they paid for it in the end. They need to make some hard choices as Raul continues to disappoint. He was virtually non-existent today and their prolific goal scorer Owen came in the extra time. I dont think Owen is more complete a player than Raul but he is in goal scoring form.

:( Both Milan and Juve are through and most likely another Italian side Inter will go through on March 16

What a goal that was… It seemed like Carvalho was stunned and just stood there while Ronaldhino waved his foot around while deciding where to place it.. Great goal, it’s a shame he won’t be featured in the rest of competition.

Man U was very disappointing - Unfortunately their best player was trying to come back from injury at the wrong time – Fergie should have played a fit forward rather than try to play Ruud into shape in the biggest games of the year.

Gattuso played well for AC, which is good since he wants to sign for ManU.

Spanish teams out.

Liverpool got a lucky draw.

Re: Champions League - 2004/5

**Inter qualified for quarter finals after beating Porto 3-1 ** through a hattrick by none other than Adriano :k: Both the finalists of last years CL are out.

Quarter finals draw will be held on 18th.

Oh my god, Adriano is back! Il Imperatore has once again proven why he is one of the world’s most unique talents and a top CF. – i mean, when have you ever seen such a ridiculous combination of physical power and skill on the ball? it should be illegal to have a player like this in football. He attracts so much attention from defenders and is so hard to keep quiet.

I’m simply overwhelmed by this. I was fully prepared for any sort of tie that would send Inter out of the CL because this always seems to be the storyline with their club, but I’m proud to see them make it through. God bless. :k:

Forza Inter!
Siamo l’armata Nerazzurro!

Re: Champions League - 2004/5

^ How far do you think they can make? If they are drawn against a weaker (so called) opposition like PSV, they will make it to the semis, otherwise their defensive frailities that have haunted them throughout the season wont let them through to semis.

But I will agree with you on Adriano. He is an exceptional talent. If Real makes the reported Ronaldo-Adriano switch, it will be Inter's loss. Ronaldo is inconsistent to say the least and his combo with Raul is not wokring anymore.

Re: Champions League - 2004/5

Quarter Final Draws

Lyon v PSV Eindhoven
Inter v AC Milan
Chelsea v Bayern Munich
Liverpool v Juve

Milan Derby in a quarter final is yummy :yummy: Apart from Chelsea-Bayern match which should be a close thing, other two matches are not THAT mouth watering but oh well. Liverpool can give Juve a run for thier money but it will be really hard for them to beat them over the course of two legs.

Olympique Lyon - PSV Eindoven: wow is this rigged or what? is UEFA trying to increase the price of Michael Essien? i m not saying PSV Eindhoven is a bad team, but easily the least talented of all the teams, I can't see Lyon losing this one. 5-1 on aggregate for Lyon.

Liverpool - Juventus: This will be an extremely difficult task for Liverpool, but Juventus have a history of losing to English sides, especially ManU, If Benitez can get his team to play like they did against Bayer Leverkusen and not like they do in the Premiership then I think Liverpool can pull up an upset here. Juventus wins 3-2 on aggregate

Chelsea - Bayern Munich: Unlike Arsenal, :p Chelsea can play defence - and that big win over Barca will clearly give them confidence to beat any team in the world and expect a full Chelsea team this time with the likes of Robben.
Chelsea wins on aggregate 3-1.

Milan AC - Inter: hahahaha another Milan derby, despite having Adriano, Inter's defence isn't scaring anybody and Milan will surely have Shevchenko back for this one -- AC Milan takes this 2-0 on aggregate.

Re: Champions League - 2004/5

Liverpool-Juve match has been off to a cracker and Liverpool are 2-0 up inside 30 minutes. Juve almost replied with Zlatan hitting the post. Juve have been really disappointing but Liverpool have been rampant. Come on Juve :k:

Re: Champions League - 2004/5

Final scores tonight:

Liverpool 2 - 1 Juventus
Lyon 1 - 1 PSV

=============

A 1-0 result will be enough to get Juve through and Italian sides are famous for grinding out 1-0 results. So Advantage Juve but Liverpool did play really well in the first half.

Lyon will be disappointed with the result, all their goal scoring form couldnt prevent a draw and they conceded an away goal.

Re: Champions League - 2004/5

Tonights Quarter Finals first legs results:

Chelsea 4 - 2 Bayern Munich
Ac Milan 2 - 0 Inter Milan

===================

Chelsea had this amtch under control till the 3rd minute of injury time till Ballack dived theatrically in injury time to earn a penalty and late second away goal. Chelsea are still favourites to go through though because they can score in Bayern Munich or if they cannot they an play defence very well. Third goal by Lampard was a beauty.

AC Milan were never really scared throughout the match and once again were superior to thier city rivals. Shevchenko once again scored soon after coming back from injury.

Great performance by Milan. Such a balanced team, and have basically booked themselves a ticket to the semi-finals. Not only can they dictate the tempo when they want to, but they have some of the scariest defenders ever. Despite dominating the ball for most of the game and creating many chances ourselves, it seems like it's impossible to beat them in such a tight shift game like a derby. It suits their style very well, which is why Inter stands no chance in the second leg.

My prediction is that they'll beat Chelsea in the final, because I can't see anybody stopping them this year. Seedorf is playing some of his best football ever, and Milan's defense is just scary. When Shevchenko is at a 100% they are almost impossible to beat.

Re: Champions League - 2004/5

^ Chelsea and Milan are applying almost similar kind of tactics but Chelsea's counter attacks are so quick and if they can get Robben for the semis and final, they will have the edge in istanbul IMO.

Re: Champions League - 2004/5

*Chelsae are through to semi finals after losing to Bayern Muncih 3-2 but going through on aggregate 6-5. *. They were the only team not to concede three goals in a match in whole europe. Now thats some stat. They will be facing either Liverpool or juve. Chelsea's second consecutive semi final berth.

But shame ful scenes in San siro when Inter fans threw fire missiles soon after one inter goal was disallowed. Players were taken off, brought back then went off again. Milan was 3-0 ahead on aggregate so no question who was gonna go through. Match is abondoned though and severe punishments lie ahead for Inter fans.
