Challenge in your area of expertise ..

Looking from far , its sometimes much easier to get inspired by other fields of work , rather then one’s own and perhaps we get away with saying things like " its easy being a doctor" or "look how much money accountants are making , and the job isnt hard either " … but the fact is , every career has its distinct set of challenges … Lets explore that here ..

What is the challenge in your area of expertise?

Re: Challenge in your area of expertise ..

Re: Challenge in your area of expertise ..

challenges?? :D

understanding industry developments, competitive moves, technical innovations and customer usage to develop product strategy roadmap, balance initiatives of all products in portfolio for appropriate investment in development, enhancement and launch, make decisions to invest, harvest, leave on cruise control, ramp down, outsource, whitelabel, etc

balancing strategy, technology, and delivery capabilities so not only do we have a stellar product but that all stakeholders and involved parties understand it and can speak to it.

oh, and manage version controls so we dont get stuck in adding functions/features which are not value add, not able to be done in launch timeframes, and may be capabilities/functions/features which the market is not ready for and/or is not willing to pay for.
and make money, increase profitability at the same time

and do all this coordinating with a global team and stakeholders, partners, vendors, suppliers, etc.

Re: Challenge in your area of expertise ..

aargh... where do I start :D

As a professor, in my line of work, the primary challenge is to balance the workload between teaching and research activities. There are times when I need to forego opportunities in one of these areas to concentrate better on the other. There’s a lot of overhead as well... you can never just leave work in the office – you’re always connected to work somehow... responding to student queries and requests, brainstorming ideas with colleagues or leads, reading newly published research etc.

Secondly, as an industry practice professor, it’s extremely important for me to keep up to date with what’s going on around me – so that I can provide a quality learning experience to my students. This requires me to keep up to date with technology innovation and industry developments so that course material and class discussions are relevant and current, and to find the time and the opportunities to engage first hand with strategy formulation and operational implementations to provide accurate narratives in the classroom. On average, I change about 40% of my course content every year to reflect new developments and current trends.
