… between man and animal
Re: Challenge: Define the difference ...
Free will in man vs no free will in animals
Also, don't animals lack souls?
Re: Challenge: Define the difference ...
Peace Princess121
How can we test whether an animal does have free will? ... yes you may be right, but my question is really about how we can show something to be an animal and not a human from what it does.
Re: Challenge: Define the difference ...
Animals don't wear clothes and shoes.
oh wait. Neither do some men.
Re: Challenge: Define the difference …
Let me first say they both belong to the animal kingdom. I believe that’s where the similarities end. It’s my understanding that animals and humans are VERY different beings. I do not condone animal cruelty, I am almost a vegetarian ![]()
Human intelligence exceeds “animal” intelligence. Our ability to think, resolve, use logic and make decision is far better than animals. if it weren’t for our intelligence, we wouldn’t have taken over the world. This is the very proof of our power. We are the fittest of all animals, hence, the world’s under our control.
Where are you going with this? Is this going to turn into another anti-evolution thread? ![]()
Re: Challenge: Define the difference ...
The biggest difference between animals and human beings is the communication skills. Humans learn from each other much more than animals due to advanced communication skills. Our learning curves include learning of billions who belong to the same specie. This communication does not only include talking to our fellow human beings.. but also includes reading books, watching other forms of mass communication media.. etc, etc. Before we started to talk to each other our specie was living just a little better lifestyle than most of the animal communities.
This does not undermine the developed brain capabilities of our specie. We have around 1400 CCs of brain size, compared to our closest specie chimpanzee which has around 400 CCs. If a monkey or chimpanzee is adopted by humans, due to deficient mental capacity can never learn the communication skills which can be learnt by humans. However the efficient utilization of this advanced brain was only possible through communication.
Therefore people who are closed minded and insist on communicating/learning from their approved source due to their religious, cultural, racial, ethnic or any other prejudices (which are mostly accidental due to birth) remain deficient in learning compared to others who are more open minded and ready to learn new concepts.
In the greater universal context we live on an insignificant planet revolving around a mediocre star in a mediocre galaxy amongst billions of known discoverable galaxies. So we are really really insignificant in that context. However this thread is I presume to discuss the difference between other life forms and humans living on this planet. I hope the thread starter will keep the discussion to the original challenge regarding the living inhabitants of this planet (whose presence can be felt by the five human senses) instead of involving super naturals in this discussion.. I look forward to see different opinions on this subject.. as I said "to learn from others through communication"..!!!
Re: Challenge: Define the difference ...
^ I disagree. Animals do communicate.. Besides if a human being was isolated from advanced forms of communication i.e. take away all books, mass communication media etc and also isolate in a place where there is no one else to talk to, it doesn't make them any less human.
Psyah bhai you've confused me.
Re: Challenge: Define the difference ...
Man has thumbs.
Re: Challenge: Define the difference …
More likely women nowadays ![]()
P.S…Differnce between Man and Animal is the presence of ‘‘mind’’ or ‘‘conscience’’

Thanks for replies so far ... Theorist and yazdi please stay on topic and try not making or insinuate that I'm making this an anti-evolution thread or that I will suddenly start to involve supernatural beings ... NomiCA has given a more valuable reply than most here which sort of surprises me ... I think of him being the last one to provide valuable input ... hehe
Princess121 ... you say that humans have free will and animals don't ... how do you know that we have free will and animals don't? Nomi has introduced the idea of the "mind" how does this differ from what people call in particular scientists call the "brain" ?
Without using religion to bail us out ... we certainly look like animals ... however my assumption is we are different from every animal in such a way that none of them share this particular characteristic with us be they a donkey or dolphin, a chipmunk or a chimp. First of all see if my assumption is sound ... although animals have varying degrees of intelligence ... but is there something more black and white about animals and humans that put us in one group by ourselves and all other animals in the other group?
Re: Challenge: Define the difference ...
men are a subset of animals, from the monospecific genus Homo.
Re: Challenge: Define the difference ...
hey brainbox queer ... difference not taxonomy
Re: Challenge: Define the difference ...
well your question is like, whats the difference between fruits and grapes.
Re: Challenge: Define the difference ...
So your answer is that since humans are like animals in taxonomy therefore we are animals ... there is a big difference in the category fruit compared to the category animal ... although I like your thinking on this. However lets try to find a fruit that set it apart from all other fruits ... can you think of one?
Re: Challenge: Define the difference …
Offcourse I watch what you just implied… and much more too…especially since its ramadan…great point :k:
