So what do people really mean whent hey call someone chalak? or even hoshyar for that matter? how does society see this, good or bad? always confuses me.
Re: chalak
I've never heard it being used in a positive context. "Chalak" to me means sneaky yet clever. Maybe that's just me. waits for others to comment
Re: chalak
Chalak: Clever, sly, cunning. Its a negative word.
Hoshyar isnt necessarily a negative word. It mostly means smart and intelligent.
Re: chalak
I have only seen chalaak or taiz used in a negative way where they imply a cleverness that either harms others or puts them at a disadvantage...whether real or perceived. And what I mean by 'perceived' is that sometimes the disadvantage is merely one's defensive opinion and not actually a disadvantage. For example, one may call a person chalak or taiz if they don't disclose details of their personal life that have no bearing on the asker's life and should be none of their concern. So, sometimes the usage of chalak is valid and other times it's not, lol.
I do think that people should be a bit hoshiyar or chalak to protect themselves. This duniya is a tough place for the seedhay folk.
Re: chalak
I've only heard 'chalak' used in a negative context.. 'Simple' was the opposite and so-called positive tho I find that word equally annoying.. 'homely' was another one..
Re: chalak
someone who connivingly and covertly put his interests ahead of someone else's. Theek?
Re: chalak
imo chalak means sly and hoshyar means alert/clever. The former is almost always used in a negative context whereas the latter can be both but mainly positive from what I have heard around from people.
Re: chalak
chaalaak is a negative word while 'hoshiyaar' can be both negative and positive depending on how it is said, like:
positive: vo apne fun [skill] meN bahot hoshiyaar hai
negative: vo Hisse-baaN meN Thamesha hoshiyaarii kartaa hai
Re: chalak
I always thought 'chalak' is meant in a bad way, and 'Hoshyar' in a good way
Re: chalak
isnt hoshiyar something as in brave. and chalak as in clever or chopsy
