Chakwal and the Awan caste connection

My parents are from Chakwal in Punjab, Pakistan and my grandparents have always maintained that Awan (which is the ruling landowner class in that region) have always been there since time immemorial. The area is full of Awans. I am Awan on my dad’s side. Incidentally, the village of Khara nearby where my dad’s parents hail from is about 95% Awan and my distant relatives own vast fields of land which they proudly display to us, their relatives in the US, whenever we go to visit. In addition, most of my dad’s second cousins (male and female) are very fair-skinned with freckles, light brown hair, and blue eyes. I always see them when I go back to visit and it never ceases to amaze me as to how these exotic people can not only be Pakistani but distantly related to myself. Mind you I have natural black hair and brown eyes. This is where I start wondering about the geneology and ethnicity/racial makeup of my family, witnessing all the physical differences within the Awan caste itself.

Would anyone here, other than me, be Awan as well? Would you know the history behind the Awan caste in this region and/or the history of Chakwal?

hi there
im also awan as well...not really from chakwal (but been there many times)..in order to get our village (called khura) we pass through chakwal and stop to have a meal there...anyways getting off topic...both my parents are awans..which makes me 100% awan (big up!)..my dadaba has the light skin and blue eyes, as so some of my pohpohs..but it seemed to skip me and my paretns (too bad!)....i really dont know the history about awans..but am really interested to learn.also u mentioned about the different physcial characteristics of the awan caste..i knwo what u mean....i have cousins who are really fair skinned wth light eyes, but also have cousins who are dark skinned wtih dark eyes.....
anyways, interesting topic..hope to hear other replys as well...

oho shweeto.. welcome back and congrats on your acheivement...

My phuppo got married to an Awaan (an awaan :D)...cuz my daddi didn't want her to marry a Kashmiri. So, they are awaans frm Layal pur. However, they are either dark or wheatish. So may be that s the difference between the Awans from Chakwal and Awans frm other places :--D

i once researched on this topic...the localization of different castes in different areas of Pakistan.

Besides Awans...there are many Rajputs located in the Pindi/chakwaal region. Iam a Bhatti Rajput...grandparents were from CHakwal.

Ok im also Awan from both sides, and my forefathers originate from near chakwaal as well....hmmmm interesting peepzzzz!
