Chak,Mauza, Sakna, Anga

Re: Chak,Mauza, Sakna, Anga

How come you know the terminologies but, not the meaning?:hmmm:

something fishy

Re: Chak,Mauza, Sakna, Anga

where muqa is concerned…expect the unexpected :hehe:

Re: Chak,Mauza, Sakna, Anga

pta sab hy :fatee:

Re: Chak,Mauza, Sakna, Anga

I told you about Chak.. heard other terms in Lahore centers dramas. They used to teach us these concepts in Sindhi ( Tak, Deh, Taluqa, etc) in class -2 and I forgot the difference too

That i have to check, not sure about the exact figure.

Re: Chak,Mauza, Sakna, Anga

I also heard that Muraba / Kanal in Lahore is different from other parts of Punjab

If u mean the sq ft area wise, then yes in lahore a muraba has lesser acres than rest of punjab.

Re: Chak,Mauza, Sakna, Anga

yes thats what I heard ( lesser area in Lahore's Muraba than Murbas in other parts of Punjab). May be its due to Lahore being more developed

No offence, muqawwe bahi, but lahore seems to daba everything under its royal back. Even the fresh milk is .5 less than a regular litre/kilo. but they charge one whole litre.

Re: Chak,Mauza, Sakna, Anga

 Khadim e Aalaa doesn’t take care of these things, which are so well known to public. I heard that there was time, when milk and dahi used to be sold at same rate in Lahore. The situation changed, when gujjars got control over the business

Re: Chak,Mauza, Sakna, Anga

I Know about Chak… and heard about Mauza… :snooty:

Re: Chak,Mauza, Sakna, Anga

Chaks are demarcations based on agricultural lands. A group of agricultural lands are defined as a chak based on equitable distribution of water supply.
As noted above, a few chaks combine to form a mauza...which is also referred to as a 'pind' in punjabi or 'gaoon' in urdu.
'Sakna' is just a notation used to denote one's place of residence. Eg, if I live in village ABC, then my address will be something like, 'Sakna ABC'.
Never heard of Anga. Perhaps its an indian punjabi word.

Re: Chak,Mauza, Sakna, Anga

Thanks for information. so sakhna is a derivative of Maskan and Chak seems to be agriculture part of a pind

Re: Chak,Mauza, Sakna, Anga

google uncle says ‘Anga’ is a village in Soonsakesar Valley. so that might be mauza o sakna ‘Anga’- A person living in Anga.

Soon Sakesar Valley | History, Snaps Of Soon Valley Khushab

Main villages and centre of Soonsakesar Valley is Naushehra, Other villages are Uchhali, Sakesar, Amb Sharif, **Anga**, Chitta, Kotli, Ugali, Kufri, Kuradhi, Sabhrwal, Marhava, Sirhal, Shakarkot, Dhaka, Tiwin, Jalewali, Bhukhi, Sodhi j wali, kalial, Bhanakha, Khura, Kathwai, Sodhi Zarien, Sodhi Bala, Chamraki, jahlar, Surraki, Mardwal, Makrummi, Dhadhar, Khabaki, Uchhala, Khotakka, Jhungewala, Jaba, Pail and Padhrar.

Re: Chak,Mauza, Sakna, Anga

Correct about Sakna...its derived from maskan.
Regarding chaks, you may have noticed seemingly random alphabets following the word chak, eg 'chak gaaf.bay'. These alphabets are some sort of a code for demarcation, based on measurment/water supply.

Re: Chak,Mauza, Sakna, Anga

yeh kya hai?

Re: Chak,Mauza, Sakna, Anga

I heard Chak followed with numbers and not Alphabets. May be its different scheme in different parts

Re: Chak,Mauza, Sakna, Anga

machli ka kata kat. normally katakat is from something else ;)

Re: Chak,Mauza, Sakna, Anga

chak and mauza terminology developed due to system of water irrigation in punjab....

we have gaon then few villages form block...

kuch block mil kar banta hai taluqa ya tehsil isse andhra me mandal bhi kehte hain...

uske baad kuch taluqa ye tehsilon ko mila kar jilha(district) banta hain...

ek kanal=kitne square feet ?
