Re: Chak De patte! what does that mean?
This is a term usually found during bhangras…
It means to dance to the point where your ‘Chak’, or the slit between the front and back hem of the Kurta, becomes ‘Phatt’, or tears apart…You know, like ‘phatt gayee’…
So, dance till your hem splits…
So, Chak de phatte dance kar…

Re: Chak De patte! what does that mean?
The district (zilla' in urdu) in punjab is called "Chuk" ..
so the phaTay (wood logs) from a "chuk" is called "Chuk de phaTay" [Wood logs of the district]

Re: Chak De patte! what does that mean?
Amelie......ur sikh friend said 'pick da leaves' OMG...gotta be the first sikh to not know what it means. That's just plain sad.
Re: Chak De patte! what does that mean?
Ohhh wait now i get it...u asked patte which means leaves...u have to ask Phatte...because it's pronounced 'PHATTAY' with an H which totally changes the word. no H means leaves. with H (which is what u use when using the slang chak de phatte) means boards!
Re: Chak De patte! what does that mean?
Wazzy Boi you were right!
So we asked my sikh friend’s mom…
it’s slang from songs, more of a jhat language…she’s says literally it means to pick up a plank of wood, but really it’s slang meaning to go wild
—as if they went so wild that they picked up planks of wood
