How to get rid of them?
re: chaiyaan
it's called melasma and the cause is hormonal. it should spontaneously go away after giving birth, might take a couple of months. meanwhile if it's safe during pregnancy, they can take the skin lightining products that are readily available, eg ones with hydroquinone in them or other natural remedies.
re: chaiyaan
These changes are caused by hormonal changes during pregnancy, which stimulate a temporary increase in your body's production of melanin, the natural substance that gives color to hair, skin, and eyes. have you noticed how pregnant women have healthy hair, stong nails and good skin? The areas of increased pigmentation will probably fade within a few months after delivery and your skin should return to its normal shade. The only thing you can do is protect your skin against the UV rays by using SPF30 or higher. Because exposure to sun intensifies the pigmentation in skin. :)
Re: chaiyaan
OK the lady I am talking about said they aren't getting any better. Her kid is 10 months old now. The dermatologist says it isn't any disease, and like you all said, hormonal, and tha she should get on prescription hydroquinone (4%). She is afraid to do so...does store bough hydroquinone have the same results?

hydroquinone will act as skin bleaching cream. The only difference with the ones bought over the counter compared to the prescribed ones is the strength of the cream. Generally the milder variations of the products bought over counter tend to be slightly less effective so will take longer to show results.
Has she tried microdermabrasion or face peels?
Re: chaiyaan
What kind of peels? Please suggest.

glycolic peels for example....
Re: chaiyaan
I don't think she has. Can you get them over the counter? WHere?
Re: chaiyaan
There are a lot of options available over the internet. however I would suggest going to a specialist for this The UK’s leading Dermatology, Aesthetic and Laser Clinics - sk:n Clinics
To my knowledge there isnt anything over the counter that has simialr strength to the stuff that is used by the professionals. I believe lancome launched a product which is very very mild Amazon.co.uk and there is one by Boots Pardon Our Interruption
Re: chaiyaan
She should begin with the mild HQ creams..otc ones are usually 2% or 4%. She should switch to glycolic washes and moisturizers for now. Alternating sessions of glycolic peels and microderm would give her great results.
