Chai and Culture

Re: Chai and Culture

I don't think this is popular in Pakistan as no brand (Masala flavor) is available in Pakistan. In Pakistan they like KaRak and doodh patti. Green tea is also popular in some areas.

BTW whats the difference between 'daane daar' and other variety of tea?

Re: Chai and Culture

@ PG
Yes they do, in Canada you can find it at any Indian grocery store,
But it would be in blue box (international packing )

Re: Chai and Culture

Oh no tately masala tea is not in Pakistan, last time I brought 4 boxes with me :bummer:

One is danedar pati as the name says it has little round shape tea, other is called choora the powered shape.

Re: Chai and Culture

Tetley is available in Pakistan but not Masala flavour. I remember at the time of introduction of Tetley in Pakistan there ad showed blurred image of Supreme ( a brand by Unilever) and said something negative about it, which created controversy.

Is there any difference in tea made from choora and dane dar?

Re: Chai and Culture

Dane-dar less karak less color (dark)

Choora is karak and very dark .

Re: Chai and Culture

Yup i'll look for this, although i'm not a fan but few of my friends like it! I just like Tetley's Bold or Marks & Spencer extra song :)

Re: Chai and Culture

It's fitting to mention here that after 4 years of making horrible to decent chai in university, my pre-university amazing chai skills are back.

Also, the very first time I tried to make green tea, I put milk in it o.o

Re: Chai and Culture

green tea with Milk.. nearer to Kashmiri chai :hehe:

Re: Chai and Culture

^ I do the same,Milk or 2 spoon of condensed milk,I don't like that taste of green tea .

Re: Chai and Culture

I of course know Alpha! You get Lasa/Lamsa tea at Alpha! Do have it when you go there again. Yes, I am a born Hyderabadi, married to a Punjabi, and now live in Maharashtra. A kachumbar type :)

Re: Chai and Culture

Re: Chai and Culture

Any thoughts on the chai made from the rosewater?

Re: Chai and Culture

Never heard of it. That would be quite aromatic

Re: Chai and Culture

Well, I do it today and let me tell you, pretty good. I use only more than little bit of the rosewater and dilute it with some tap water because that stuff is $$$. It was similar yet different.

Let's not mention the word aromatic for the rest of our lives. It just reminds me of ochem
