I have this questions that is bugging me and I want to post on this forum so I can get some answers.
We use a wide varity of products every day which contain CETYL ALCOHOL. Things like Moisturizing lotions, Creams..etc. I want to ask you guys is that OK to use. It is not haram is it?I am not sure thats why I am asking, so don’t jump on me…
From a common sense + islamic perspective, a superficial application of alcohol, either for medical or cosmetic reasons is ok. Its the internal consumption thats haraam.
And internal consumption is allowed for medicinal purposes, when there is no other option available, and the issue is life threatening.

Sharab is sharab no matter if you call it cetyl or something else.
Without looking at what Islam has to say about this, common sense should tell you - any stimulants that make you drunk is haram.
Anyone here ever tried cetyl alcohol, does it make you drunk?

uff khudaya.. Watcher.. dont get so jazbaati.. temper is haraam as well. yet i see it being reflected here so many times.
as u see from the first post.. its not about ingesting cetyl alcohol.. its the fact that its in topical emollients, creams, and ointments as a dissolving agent. its in ur shampoos, some perfumes, etc etc. i think islam refers to anything intoxicating from grapes (wine) which u ingest. alcohol was used by the arab muslims as a preservative (not food, other stuff) and as a excipient (t o help in solubulizing something).
anyone have more info on this topic can correct me if i'm wrong.
even though wine-drinks that are intoxicating are clearly stated in the Quran as being haraam doesnt make it right that drugs are OK. both alter the state of mind when ingested. i think most pple know that.
hmm well Watcher, i was referring to u as tohra bohot jazbaati and i quoted EA's thing in reflecting that his answer was in correlation to the initial post of this thread.
