Can someone tell me if a lady has had a C-sec, a classic one, is it mandatory for her to have another C-sec for the next child?
Someone I know was telling me that her doctor has not given her any other option.

Re: Cesaereans vs. natural delivery
I know someone who has had 3 C-sec so there may not be another option... :-\
to summarise: a classical caesarean means the woman will not be able to consider a vaginal birth because of the way the incision is performed and its damage to the uterus. if she has had a lower uterine segment section than she can be considered for a vaginal birth.

Yes it is !
There are two types of C-sections.....Lower segment and Classical , basically the difference is in where the scar is sited in the womb( uterus ).
In case of the Classical since the scar (incision ) is taken in the upper part of the uterus there are higher chances of scar giving way( uterine ruptire risk of 200--900/ 10,000) and that is why we do not allow them to go upto Term ( i.e 40 completed weeks ) as we don't want these patients to go into spontaneous labour or start contracting . They are therefore scheduled for an Elective C-section earlier around 37 weeeks of pregnancy.
Lower segment C- sections also carry this risk ( 22--74/ 10,000 ) after a single previous C- section but it is less than that for classical scars and so if a woman has had a lower segment c-section ONCE she can be given a trial of vaginal birth under close monitoring if everything else has gone smoothly and the conditions at term allow it............as she has an overall sucess of VBAC (vaginal birth after C-section) about 72---76 %.
In practice we usually advocate Elective C-section after previous 2 Lower segment C-sections or a single previous Classical C-section .
Re: Cesaereans vs. natural delivery
I am not a doctor but from what I understand it depends on why she received the c-section in the first place.
I have a cousin who had 1 c-section with her first baby and did a VBAC (as sheyn mentioned above) with her second. Alhamdulillah it was successful.
Most doctors prefer not to do VBAC's. In fact many doctors refuse completely...I dont know why ...perhaps sheyn can enlighten us on that.
i am a mother of 2 daughters!
my first baby was a C-sec and the second natural birth! my sis is a doctor and she told me, it is not at all copulsory to have ur children in ur rest of ur life C-sec!!!! if u haave ur first baby C-sec...
every individual differs from each other!!
Re: Cesaereans vs. natural delivery
i don't know about other countries, but in the US, most doctors will push for a c-section if you've had one before (and maybe even if you haven't had one before), because they're afraid of what might go wrong and natural labor can take hours sometimes.
basically, the way an OBGYN friend explained it to me, c-sections take 15 minutes of the doctors' time, vaginal births can take the whole day. it's convenient for them to do a c-section, and go home.
Re: Cesaereans vs. natural delivery
well it depends why u had c-section the first time. if it was a reoccuring situation (like failure to progress) then dr. will push u for another c-section , bcz chances r same situation will repeat it self and u will end up in emergancy c-section .but if it was due to a non-reoccuring situation(like breach baby) then chances r u can deliver without c-sction. but dr. really dont want to go for normall delivery , most of them will push for c-section.
Re: Cesaereans vs. natural delivery
I've heard that you can have a natural delivery after the first c-section, but if there are multiple c-sections already, there may be no other option. There may be other concerns as well.
in the US docs are always afraid of lawsuits so they will always take the option which is easier to control which is a c-section. even if the v delivery is still possible, they may encourage the c-section to stay on the safe side.
eeeew..this pain in natural bbirth..nd this cutting open in c-section..sounds awfully agonzing..yikerooo!..
Re: Cesaereans vs. natural delivery
I agree with Jalebi as well. Mostly doctors push for C-sections to save themselves time and lawsuits. There's no set law or principle in medicine that says that moms with previous C-section deliveries should go for them again. But usually if you have had one before, there's a higher chance of you needing it again as compared to someone who hasn't delievered yet or have had normal delivery.
