i got the chi and atfirst it turned hair into silk but after a few uses it didnt do muchh…so i returned it.. but i really wanna invest in a good flat hair iron.. got any tips

The best best best ones to get are called GHD's. They used to only be available in salons untill a recently and are the ones they use when Yuko'ing.

They're the best ones to get because the entire plate is made of ceramic as opposed to cheaper versions which are only ceramic coated.

I use Futura and I can't fault it - makes my hair proper sleek/straight. Not sure if it's all ceramic or just ceramic plated though ...

^^.. sadi does it dry the hair???

Futuras ceramic coated as far as I'm aware. Just out of interest Sadi, how often do you use yours?

Dev/Shezza, I only bought it a few months ago, so I'm probably not the best person to ask. I use it approx once a week, and let my hair rest the other two washes. If truth be told, I think it is starting to wreck my hair. My hair has always been a little frizzy, but since I started using the straightener I cant even leave the house without first applying products (mouses, serums) to my hair - it has seriously dried it out.

Having said that, the days I do use the straightner, my hair looks really really lush - really shiny and smooth - very yukod (at a fraction of the time/price). I’m tempted to straightan my hair more often, but I shall refrain ...

Sobi get them straightened permanently. Nothing can beat the joy of letting your hair dry naturally without frizzing up. No gels, no serums, no mousses, just a plain wash, conditioner and your ready to go! I lurrrve my hair :hula: As far as the price is concered, it’s well worth it. It costs me $350.00 but I think of it as a dollar a day and make myself feel better.

Femme, that sounds heavenly! My hair is really really really fine, and my sister told me permanently straightening you hair can make it even thinner/fall out even more. I'll be turning bald if I lose any more hair :(

Yes it does make the hair rather flat atleast for the first month or so. About hair falling out, I think it just cos u see them more. Being straight they will slip out instead of getting tangled up with the rest. But thats right, if you're hair r already thin u probably dont want them sleek and sticking to ur scalp!

how long does this last? What if u have curly hair, is it worth getting it straightened? my hair is really dry too now, b/c i dont do much with it, i leave it up in a bun..freakkin bird's nest

Femme, does it also mean no tangles? I wouldn’t mind if my hair ended up looking the way it does when I’ve straightened it with my ceramic straighhtner … I just don’t want to limpify it any more than it already is.

If you condition them well u get very little tangles. Limpness I can't say. I have pretty thick hair and even they look limp for the first month or so.
I have been getting them straightened for 3 yrs now. Roots start showing as ur hair grow. But that's no big deal cos you can always blow dry them. The end result will always be much better than what u get by blowdrying curly hair. I get mine done yearly. It will be a yr next month and no one can tell how far back I had them straightened. They still look pretty dead straight after blowdrying. And to give u an idea of my own hair...ppl used to think I was lying if I told them that I hadn't gotten get a perm. I had ringlets. As much as everyone adored my hair I just couldnt handle them any more so I got them straightened. I do miss my ringlets at times but the convenience of straight hair is much more valuable to me.

I actually like it when it starts growing out a bit, because as Femme said it can look a bit flat when its been freshly done. Thats why I've been popping the kelp tablets like mad the past few weeks and now my hairs all nice and bouncy on top again.

poor girls… I have naturally straight hair… not one curl or wave…

^^ hey shahreen, is kelp for growin hair faster, if not then do u kno anything that does help hair grow..
i cut my hair.. real short n i miss it n i want it bak..

while ur at it, what will make it thicker?

Devi - yes kelp makes your hair grow faster. Every now and then I let my hairdresser talk me into getting it cut short and kelp always it. Don't take it if you have thyroid problems though.

Sadi - I'm not sure about whether it'll make your hair thicker per se. Cos technically hair is dead anyway but kelp will improve the general condition of any new hair growth so might be worth a try.

can u reccommend specfic brand

It doesn't matter which brand you get really. I buy mine from anywhere, the ones I'm using at the moment are from Holland & Barratt. I think they were around £4 for a weeks supply.
