Cencorship at GupThup Forum

How many believe that for a public opinion forum there is more censorship at gupshup forum than under martial law in Pakistan?

Re: Cencorship at GupThup Forum

What has this got to do with world affairs

Re: Cencorship at GupThup Forum

The reason you do not see what it has to do with world affairs is that it has instead to do with world affairs forum, which should be based on free expression of public opinion unless of course they instigate violence.

What makes it even worse is that most of the opinion I posted was not my own but oly a copy paste from Yahoo news. This forum even had a problem with copy paste of a speech made by a US Rep. before the US House of Representatives in 2006.

I think the forum is dominated by a few established in the west elders (senior members) who object to just about everything posted by junior members to maintain their seniority.

Re: Cencorship at GupThup Forum

Like which threads?

Re: Cencorship at GupThup Forum

exactly, copy paste..without discussion and in four cases without proper reference and in one case copy paste from another forum.

This is not about censorship this is about policies established years ago to keep the site running regarding dealing with material owned by others i.e. intellectual property.

JayR's several threads were moved because he was simply posting articles here, no discussion nothing. Mods had asked him to stop it already. ravage had asked very nicely once reminding of the policy, and then reminded JayR of the policy again in a different thread which had the exact same issue yet more threads were opened and the threads in question never edited to provide a link or to make the posting more than a cut and paste.

It appeared that message did not sink through and the same policy regarding how to deal with copyrighted works was not followed. as a result the threads were moved.

So first of all JayR should have known the rules, seocndly if he was not aware, he was asked very nicely by the mods.

It is not some baseless policy dreamt up by Azkar some evening, but a policy being followed after the site being contacted by original content owners complaining about copyright violations. Based on recommendations from the lawyers of this site, the policy has been instituted for a number of years that articles can be quoted as long as the link is provided and its not just the article being posted.

The fact that only his threads that violated articles quoting policy were removed and he has not been given a single warning point speaks volumes about the patience of the mods and admins of this forum.

JayR, you are free to contact ehsan and discuss this with him, and now that the position has been made clear in no uncertain terms I sincerely hope that the policies would not be treated as mere recommendations.

Iconoclast- the threads were about dollar's economic situation, 9-11 conspiracy theory, ron paul's address and stuff like that.

JayR- you are more than welcome to post the exact same articles and have the exact same discussions, as long as you are willing to play ball with the forum rules you agreed to when you signed on to this site.

Re: Cencorship at GupThup Forum

I agree with you 100%. does that make you feel better :)

if one follows the rules, one gets into no trouble.
