Cellphones brought from Pakistan

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if a cellphone brought from Pakistan work in North America? Cellphones back in Pakistan are dirt cheap and variety of handsets seems endless whereas in Canada, you are stuck with a few handsets and whenever some new phone comes in the market, its price is ridiculously high and that is why I’m contemplating getting some cool handset from Pk. However, I don’t wanna spend thousands of rupees on a phone which wouldn’t function properly/at all when brought over here.

So, what should I consider before buying a phone? Any particular brand/model that works well? Does company like Rogers (AT&T) have any policies against it?

P.S. My heart has set on Iphone :jano: but concerned about two issues. Please throw some light on them if you have some clue

  • If I buy an Iphone in Pakistan, will it function as it should in Canada?
  • That 3G data package is useless for me. Is there any way that I can get some other package/keep my current package with an Iphone?

Thanks in advance!

P.P.S. In India, Iphones are the priciest phones by far and not a lot of people are buying it for this reason. Its cost? 8 GB one is up for sale for IRS 11,000 and 16 GB one is going for IRS 14,000 :hayaa:. I’d have bought 2, one in black and the other in white, if only I was living there or know someone there who could get me them :hinna:

Re: Cellphones brought from Pakistan

An Iphone without 3G internet?? thats no fun...

btw, they dont have any policies against it. Make sure your charger is rated for 110V as well, and its a quad band frequency phone.

Re: Cellphones brought from Pakistan

I need a good cellphone!!!!! No idea what to get Ive always been a nokia user but nokia's crap now the quality has gone dooowwwnnn!! I'm still lusting over iphone but as much as I drop my phone I dont think it's a wise idea to buy that.

Re: Cellphones brought from Pakistan

i have it!

I've not seen much difference in prices, in June I bought Nokia Slide 6500 from Pakistan for around Rs. 20,000 and that time price over here was almost same around $280.

I've seen Iphone get scraped/scratched easily, if you're not careful. If you do still decide to go for the iphone, make sure you invest in a clear-gel skin for it.

Check out comparable phones, and decide after you've researched one thoroughly.
