Cell phone service providers in USA

Mods…I don’t know where else to put this so apologies if I put it in the wrong forum.

Ok so my contract with AT&T is up and I am looking into this new and emerging company called Alltel as a potential service provider. They seem to have reasonable plans (better then at&t) and decent phones. Consumer reports rated them as one of the top service providers along with verizon.

Have any of you tried this company? what are your experiences? which one of their phones do you/dont you recommend?

Re: Cell phone service providers

New companies usually have one common drawback i.e. really pathetic customer service. Watch out for that.

Re: Cell phone service providers

and less coverage area ... lookout for that too ... :)

Re: Cell phone service providers

i'd go for T-Mobile. AllTel probably just borrows/leases their antennas for service anyways. T-Mobile's probably more reliable in my opinion.

But ask around, compare, and then decide on the one that suits you best. :)

Re: Cell phone service providers

iam stuck with rogers… .. not a good idea :crying:

Re: Cell phone service providers

then why would “consumer reports” magazine rate it is the top service provider along with verizon? AT&T and Sprint was rated at the bottom.

I tried T-mobile because I liked their plans better then AT&T and i signed up for it bought a phone and all. I had to return the next days because there didnt provide coverage in my area :smack:

This was a couple yrs back so I’ll have to check again to see if they have coverage here now.

:cb: @ teggy

spanishgirl…I live in the USA..we dont have that company here.

nope dont have that here either.

Re: Cell phone service providers

Verizon maybe? :bummer:

I’ve only been with Sprint, T-Mobile, U.S. Cellular, Cingular :CareBear:

Out of those…i like T-Mobile.

Cons with Sprint and U.S. Cellular: They dont’ use Sim cards, thus a big big turn down for me.

Haven’t tried Verizon yet…

I think Verizon lets you check out their network for 30 days, and if you’re not satisfied, then you just return the phone and cancel plan, no ties whatsoever.

Re: Cell phone service providers

:teary1: why are you say that goodBabu?! i are never forgetted you

Re: Cell phone service providers

u is teggy..evan talk on this bring tears on mine eyes

Re: Cell phone service providers

Alltel is CDMA while T-Mobile is GSM, so they can't be sharing towers. They got some GSM footprint of Western Wireless but that is gone too.

Re: Cell phone service providers

I think other carriers do that too, atleast AT&T did when I was buying a plan.

Re: Cell phone service providers in USA

i have verizon..and over all its good ..the only thing i dont like abt is tht u dont get unlimited txt msging..and most of the people tht i know have t mobile

Re: Cell phone service providers in USA

isnt GSM suppose to be better?

I dont think any basic packages have unlimited txt messaging. Most people that I know also have T-mobile. I wonder why :hmmm:

Re: Cell phone service providers in USA

i have AT&T and every single time i talk to someone whose on T-mobile, the call is always always always dropped after 20-30 minutes. we’re all used to it by now :hinna:

Re: Cell phone service providers in USA

I always get dropped calls with AT&T…im so tired of it cuz I’ll be rambling on forever not knowing that the call has been dropped

Re: Cell phone service providers in USA

lol.. im so used to it by now, each time ther'es a pause i listen carefully for that sound that comes when a calls been dropped (a very very tiny beep that almost always goes unnoitced).. i'd change the plan..but eh
