I would highly recommend that you give Samsung Galaxy S as a gift if you are thinking to give iPhone. Samsung Galaxy S beats iphone/HTC Desire on almost every ground.
HTC Desire is amazing piece of gadget though!
If you want to show-off .. then go ffor iPhone 4. But iPhone sucks!

I read someone recommended N900 for a girl. Dude, this phone is not even for a normal user. Its a GEEKY phone, based on Linux Operating System and its SO NOT USER FRIENDLY for a normal i user. I loved that phone personally for lots of reaons but for a normal user, that cell is big NO!

yaa Galaxy S - as per the rating is rocking 2nd ( **And the same rating show’s Samsung WAVE top of the list ** But when i found out its new OS does not support VoIP - there is no purpose of buying it .
HTC desire is not available in Saudia Yet - and neither is HTC WildFire
Same is the case with Galaxy S - some guys have dummies in display - but not available in market yet.
The only Options i saw was
HTC Legend and HTC HD 2
i was comparing legend with Desire - did’nt found much of the difference - so may be i will go with this .

Whoever suggested Blackberry was on the right track. Girls txt as much as they talk and they can’t deal with virtual keyboards. Get her something with a physical key pad. You won’t be sorry.
BTW, if ur in KSA, the govt is getting RIM (the makers of BB) to put in servers, so that the Saudi govt. can “evesdrop” (understatement of the year) on all messages going across.
