Re: Celebs you have met!
IF MEETING CELEBRITIES IS ALL THAT GREAT..then here goes;
- TABBU "CHEENIKUM"; The shy little thing...could be around 8 years of age.. in her daddy's lap..found her way to PTV-K's Studio "A" when her Phoppi (first cousin to her dad Jamil) RIZWANA KHAN a.k.a Kookoo, was recording a play with me & Talat Hussain during that winter of 1973. With her was FARAH..her sister! I took both the cute little sisters around PTV-K and brought them chocolates from the tuck-shop. Never thought that they'll go so huge on show_biz as they both have made a good name in Indian Film Industry through their good work. Their dad Jamil did but ONE movie in Pakistan as hero..which didn't do well at the box office.
DEEPTI NAVAL;
**Deepti was the lead girl in Ghazanfar Ali's (of Indus TV) first movie "DOOSRA KINARA" opposite Jawed Shaikh & Late Shafi Muhammad. It was shot at Sharjah etc. Back from the shooting, Ghazanfar visited my branch at Khayyaban-e-Shamsheer, Karachi where I was the Manager....and DEEPTI was with him. They had lunch with me and I talked a great deal with DEEPTI and found her a fantastic person. I told her that she has a very bright future at the Film World...that was in 1982. She remembered that...and did say that when I met her at Dubai by chance at Bur Juman in 2005.**SHOMA ANAND, HEMA MALINI, RANJEET, KUMAR GAURAV, RAJENDRE KUMAR AND PREM CHOPRA;
**...were all at Dubai for DUBAI AWARDS-1988 held at ALNASR LEISURELAND's Ice Skating Rink. From Pakistan we had; Nayyar Sultana, Humaira Zaheer Khan, Nirala, Ghulam Mohiuddin. I was requested by Nayyar to do the anchor bit with an Indian. Backstage, I met the Indian stars who, to my complete surprise.. talked a great deal about PTV's UNKAHI with me. Hema Malini told me that she has maintained the VHS Cassette of the serial and often watches it as Dharmendre is crazy about it. I spoke to Rajendre about his mega hit SANGAM a lot... and to PREM CHOPRA about his BOBBY and to RANJEET about his villianish acts.. specially in AMAR AKBAR ANTHONY. We had dinner together.**HUGH GRANT;
I met Hugh Grant and Liz Hurley at the HILTON, Melbourne in Oct-99...when they visited Australia for the premiere of Hurley's "MICKY BLUE EYES". I was there as Media Manager for Pak Cricket Board during Pakistan's Tour Of Australia. I took autographs from both...and told them about our part of this world and my affiliation with showbiz. Hugh Grant did say that he desires to visit Pakistan sometime....and while he has not made it.. his former girlfriend LIZ HURLEY did two years back for Imran Khan's fundraiser for SKMT and at Karachi during a 100k table dinner at Lakhani's.. I met her and recalled my last meeting and she remembered to which Imran laughed and said "Agarr Bush Bhi Kabhi Aya...Tou Uss K Saath Bhi Koi rememberance nikal lo ge..."DILIP KUMAR;
It was in November 1978 that DILIP KUMAR alongside his wife Saira Bano, visit BAHRAIN for some fundraiser at Indian School.
I met him while he was visiting some shop at Bab Al Bahrain bazaar where we had our bank's branch right next to Aradous Hotel. I mentioned about my cousin in Jaipur who is a buddy to Dilip and he was quite excited and invited me at his hotel suite for tea. At hotel he came to know that I am Jamiluddin Aali's son and insisted that I call my dad and made him talk to him (Dilip) as he is a great admirer of his DOHAY. I did from his room only and Dilip spoke to Dad for about 15 minutes. I took his autograph which I still have in *my autograph book which is as old as 50 years now!*TELLY SAVALAS (Kojak):
I met Telly Savalas only for 2 minutes at the INN ON THE PARK hotel opposite Hyde Park-London in 1979 July. I shook hands with him..talked about his series and that's all as his Manager rushed him out saying "You are a lucky bloke...otherwise I dont allow people to just walk by and shake hands with Mr. Savalas"
