Celebrities who love books!

Any celebrities you know who are very much into reading and frequently talk about books?

In Pakistan, who is that? … :hmmm:

Heard Resham reading poetry in different programs. Samina Peerzada has a small library in her house and she is mostly reading religious stuff (Qavi Khan revealed that in an interview).

Re: Celebrities who love books!

Aftab Iqbal is a big reader; not sure if he's considered a celeb tho.
Perhaps a journalist

Re: Celebrities who love books!

Don't know about Pakistan, but from Indian celebrities, Sonam Kapoor claims in her interviews to be an avid reader of literary fiction.

Re: Celebrities who love books!

I don't remember correctly but probably the heroine of movie Vivah (whats her name Amrita) said in her interview that she used to read Munshi PremChand.

Saif Ali Khan in his latest controversial interview told about book loving Karina Kapoor and gifting each other books.

Re: Celebrities who love books!

He is a well known person and can be considered as celebrity, but most journalist need to be updated with books specially when do programs like 'Khabarnak'.

Re: Celebrities who love books!

@hybridkamal What does Ateeqa Odho want to prove?

It was a feel-good movie but *very *unrealistic.

As for the interview, who cares what he thinks.

Re: Celebrities who love books!

The part in Saif’s interview, which was not discussed by anyone:

Re: Celebrities who love books!

I will sound like a jerk for saying this but here goes:

With some celebrities…esp Bollywood celebs…I wonder if they really read the books they claim are their favorites in interviews. :hehe:

I can pic Saif as a reader. But if Kareena were to say that her favorite novel is…(insert name of a very lengthy classic) …I’d have my doubts.

Re: Celebrities who love books!

why do you think so about Kareena?

Exactly same views have been expresses by readers for the blog posted in post no. 6 ‘They haven’t read these books, but wanted people know that they have read these books’.

Re: Celebrities who love books!

Really? I didn’t know that others shared the same view…so I will check out the blog you speak of later on.

There are some books that have movies based on them. Watching the 2-hour movie is a lot easier than than reading the book that may be 300-500 pages long and in the case of classic novels…the English is of an older and more formal style that can make them an arduous read. So, let’s say that an actress…Kareena for instance…says that Pride and Prejudice is her favorite novel. What guarantee do we have that she only watched the movie and is passing it off as having “read” the book? :hehe: You might argue that not every book comes with a movie. And that’s true. But most books…from the renowned to the less popular…will have a summary on their stories that can be found on Wikipedia or other websites. …so it’s easy to appear knowledgable about a a particular book. To answer your question, some actresses give off more of a “reader” vibe than others. It’s easier for me to picture Saif as reader of a variety of literature cuz he seems more knowledgable about the world. The kind of responses that some celebrities give in interviews…and the way they carry themselves…makes me think they would not have the discipline or patience to read a book. Who knows? Maybe I’m wrong…and they do manage reading a novel on their long flights and off-periods. But don’t you feel the same? Is it easier for you to picture…Kajol as a reader…than let’s say…Malaika Arora as a reader? For me it is. It’s of course just a feeling, not fact.

What an interesting thread this has become.

Re: Celebrities who love books!

Okay, so I read the link and some of the comments are funny. :hehe:

I know you directed the question at hybridkamal and Allah knows best what her intentions are and how truthful her response is, but I found the …um…graphic arts to be funny. Whoever was the visual arts director of this article brought attention to Atiqa Odho’s name by slashing a line between her first and last names…something which wasn’t done with the other celebs. For me this raises the questions…What is the author of the blog trying to prove about Atiqa vs the other celebs?

Re: Celebrities who love books!

But the kind of books Saif mentioned being Kareena’s choice seems of different genre. Mostly non-fiction.

Raaz ki baat to ye hai ke I myself found Kareena quite shallow in her performances like Khushi, Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham. But in some projects like Omkara, Chameli she came as a mature actress and may be interest in literature makes it easy for artists to portray such difficult characters. In past, Rekha nad Shabana Azmi are the examples (not that I’m comparing Kareena with these legends).

Re: Celebrities who love books!

may be a split personality. Her liquor case and then the reply to what she is reading. But I don’t know how we should deal with such responses?

Re: Celebrities who love books!

If you mean that Saif prefers non-fiction, then that doesn't surprise me. Men tend to orefer non-fuction wheras women gravitate more toward fiction.

Yes, you make a good point...that actors can get inspiration for their performances from literature. As far as Kareena's shallowness is concerned....I know that she can give profound performances. I have not seen Omkara, but I have watched Chameli. Off-screen, however, Kareena does sometimes display a lack of depth and knowledge in her interview answers....and even on that show hosted by SRK which is the equivalent of the Western Counterpart...Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader.

Re: Celebrities who love books!

just wanted to understand her response. She came with different choice (not that people didn’t come up with this choice earlier). Is she on the same spiritual path as was Bushra Ansari in drama ‘ab mera intezar kar’?
