Celebrating Eid with your children

With Eid ul Adha right around the corner, most of us must have made plans to celebrate in some way or the other.

Do you take the day off from work? Do you go the Masjid with your children for Eid namaz, do you wear new clothes, visit friends, exchange gifts, etc. ?

Please share how you make Eid special and significant in your homes.

My husband takes the day off from work if he can, I am a stay at home mom. If my husband goes for eid namaz then my son goes.I don't go very often for eid namaz. I went this eid ul fitr as it was nearby but this one, (eid ul adha) is a bit far.My son is off from school my daughtere one goes twice a week anyways), we give him eidi and go for partties at other desi muslims houses. This eid ul fitr there were 3 parties, and then tommorow (eid) there are 3 again, a potluck after namaz, an open house till 5 pm and then another potluck at 7Pm. We also have a bigger party not on eid day but around that date, at the local mosque or lesewhere. This year we have 2 so yes we are pretty busy and the kids know its eid. We even had a mehndi party at someone's house ;ast night and my daughter and I got mehndi applied. We also have an eid fair at teh locxal mosque tommorw, soif w ecan squueeze the timein,we will Insha Allah go!!

Re: Celebrating Eid with your children

I take a couple of days off , this time I took only one day off for Eid ul Adha. Yes we try to get new traditional Pakistani dresses for kids and ourselves. We go for Eid prayers, kids do gift exchange at our Islamic center. We hold community brunch over the following weekends another Islamic center in city holds eid carnival.
