Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Justice (Retd) Fakhruddin G Ebrahim disqualified Waheeda Shah from being elected as a member of an assembly for two years in view of her conviction under Section 86(3)(b) of the Representation of People Act, 1976 (ROPA).
The Sindh High Court maintained her conviction but quashed her disqualification on the ground that the power to disqualify under Section 100 of the ROPA vests exclusively with the Chief Election Commissioner and not with the ECP.
Good riddance for two years. I hope everyone would have got the message through this case that Pakistan is not a personal property of anyone and that law of the land will impartially swing into action if anyone steers off his track.
Assuming that there will be elections next year, I assure you there will definitely be by-elections in coming years too. She will be back in next assembly through that
Told ya people we just need timely elections and current style democracy to gain a correct path. If everything went well, these examples will be countless !
