CCNA vs. MCSE ...?

Hello All,

I have been wondering for a while… which certification is better; long-term (renewal of certification for e.g. VB 6 -to- VB . net), in term’s of job placement, are they similar or distant apart and is it okay to do both? what IT industry; networking…etc?

so any experts who can give some insight, which is better MCSE vs. CCNA? and
Is it really worth?

Thanks in advance.

Re: CCNA vs. MCSE ...?

Ideally its better to have both, ofcourse. But if you can only do 1 then go for CCNA as its more command line and less intuitive than MS stuff so a lot less people tend to go towards it. As for telling if its worth it or not, that depends on where (geographically) you are trying to get the job and where (point in career) you are.

Re: CCNA vs. MCSE …?

they are both equally worth it.. depends what you want to get into… if networking and LANS stuf.. then i would prefer CCNA.. if desktop meaning you want to deal with more Windows based apps… MS Exchange, Domain servers… etc.. then MCSE… more jobs for MCSE in US atleast.. but once you get into Cisco stuff… trust me its more fun… CCNA… 1 exam… MCSE…7 exams… cisco is more practical in the sense you get to learn about wiring.. and then routers… Windows… all software based… its your call… i did CCNA so i would lean towards it…

go to www.mcmcse.com .. it will give you some inside stuff… like questions… sample exams… try them and see what you like…

Micrsoft is more towards desktop support… MCSE that is…

YES…definately worth it!

Re: CCNA vs. MCSE ...?

Tofi you said ideally its better, I am assuming that MCSE (entry level) is more like learning from start about network (intro and more stuff related to Micro$oft tech...) and CCNA (although entry levely networking cert) but in - depth advance networking?

Re: CCNA vs. MCSE ...?

Okie dokie, thanks alot guys, shukriya for sharing your opinions and thoughts.

Re: CCNA vs. MCSE ...?

In both fields you will learn networking. MCSE is by no means troubleshooting desktops, that's just a very small portion of it. It deals more with stuff on the server side, to setup a secure environment to connect desktops to. I don't know what your background is so don't know how much details to put in here without insulting ur knowledge, but if you'd like them feel free to ask.

Re: CCNA vs. MCSE ...?

I am a former MCSD (ver: vb6) re-routing my career (or hoping so). just gathering the information as much as I can before making a decision.

Re: CCNA vs. MCSE ...?

Get HP-UX admin, Oracle OCP and CheckPoint Firewall cert along with your CCNA. Your chances of getting job will be increased 200%.
