**Mark Cavendish produced a stunning sprint finish to win stage 11 of the Tour de France and equal Barry Hoban’s British record of eight stage wins.**The Manxman was challenged over the final 500m but refused to panic and burst through to take the green jersey.
Britain’s Bradley Wiggins, who lost time in a fall on Tuesday, had 15 seconds handed back at the start of the day and held fifth place overall.
Italy’s Rinaldo Nocentini keeps the yellow jersey, with a six-second lead.
Pre-race favourite Alberto Contador of Astana is Nocentini’s closest challenger while Astana teammate Lance Armstrong is in third place, eight seconds off the lead.

Cavendish sealed his second straight stage win, his fourth of this year’s Tour, as he left it late to sprint out the final 150m of the 119 mile ride from Vatan to St Fargeau.
American Tyler Farrar was second while Yauheni Hutarovich of Belarus came third.
