My little girl is turning two InshAllah and we’re having a get together.
As I have friends coming in for over 160 miles away to stay I felt it would be rude not to offer a good meal
so I have come up with two menus. One which is western influenced to cater for children and those who don’t eat spicy food and the other is desi style. I’m pregnant (early days) and basically need to look at food that I can prep in advance.
So the menu for the kids/non-spicy is:
minnie mouse shaped sandwiches
Chicken lollipops
minnie mouse shaped pizza-bought frozen
potato wedges-bought frozen
mini hotdogs-store brought
prawn popcorn-store brought
7 layer salad-homemade
potato pom poms-bought frozen
So basically I’ll be needing to bake most of the above apart from the sandwiches etc.
multi coloured fruit kebabs (something healthy)
homemade milkshake (calcium)
my desi menu
guppay/chaat
chickpea pilau
ginger chicken
salad raita (boondi), chutney
Tandoori drumsticks
alu tikkis
marinated chops or tandoori masala chops
Desserts (dessert table):
3 tier minnie mouse cake
chocolate cupcakes
brownies
shortbread
cake pops
Favours:
mickey mouse rice krispie treats
number 2 cookies with icing
minnie mouse cookies with icing
I plan to do most of the baking thursday. I am planning on icing the cupcakes and 3 tier cake on Friday. I was hoping to prepare the masala for the pilau and handi on wednesay and keeping them in the fridge.
I do have two guests staying over, and the remainder are coming for the party and then leaving. I also have desi guests who are not of Pakistani origin so feel a bit of pressure as I recently went a party at their house and the menu was mainly red meat. I stay away from red meat at the moment due to the smell. ‘Bhooning it’ makes me feel queasy thus the choice of chicken.
I might even post photos of the food for you lucky folks (still have images of the cake pops from 1st party).
So feedback please and comments. Does my menu work?
