Re: Comparing NYC & Lahore : Rain & Flood
First of all, I did not ‘blame’ India in my post, the point was made in response to a poster who tried to put blame on India for the calamity, but I could understand why you would feel like that.
Secondly, you have answered your own question as well as mine. If India is releasing water with prior notice, and the politicians are all aware of it, then why use it as an extended excuse or a lame cover up for their own lack of action and responsibility? This was essentially the argument I made, but I appreciate you for reinforcing it.
Thirdly, there’s a self contradictory proposition in your post. On one hand you suggest that Pakistani politicians must take some self responsibility and proactive steps to deal with rain and water released by India - absolutely correct. But on the other hand, you seems have a problem with Nawaz Sharif being criticised? It seems that you are painting him as some random and unknown political newbie thrown in the deep end? Clearly this is not the case. Since Punjab is worst hit by this natural calamity, it helps to realise that PMLN is in its seventh consecutive year of majority government in Punjab. Nawaz Sharif’s brother who is our defacto deputy Prime Minister is in his third term of CMisp of the province, faced the same situation, pulled exactly the same stunts, made exactly the excuses in 2009. But unfortunately, it seems like no lessons were learnt. And this his is an all valid and legitimate concern and the public ought to talk about it. In the light of all this, I think I’ll take your point about self responsibility and pro-active steps for our politicians.
Thanks for clarification. BTW what i meant was politicians and administration should definately take responsibility but Nawaz just came one season ago, so the majority of the blame goes to previous governments.
BTW India despite all its preparedness is hit pretty bad also. Hundreds have lost lives and lakhs are still stranded.
