Castor oil OR Conut oil --- hair care

I had such healthy hair, it’s been a year my hair has been shedding like nothing out there! Especially when I’m in the shower. I heard certain oils help, such as castor and coconut oil. What would you guys suggest ( and how did it help you) I am thinking to mix castor oil and coconut oil and apply it in my hair twice a week. Let me know your suggestions! I miss my thick hair.

Castor oil OR Conut oil --- hair care

Not sure abt hair oils, BUT after using an egg yolk mask I only shed 3 hairs in the shower. THREE! Yup, I counted. Usually, I shed a couple dozen, and even more while brushing.

I wouldn't recommend an egg yolk mask more than once a week. Hair can shed as an effect of excessive protein too.

Re: Castor oil OR Conut oil --- hair care

3 tbsp coconut oil
1 tsp castor oil
1 tsp vitamin e oil
1 tsp amla oil

^ I mix the above a massage into my scalp/roots only and then wrap up my hair in a hot towel turban, cover with a shower cap and let it set overnight.

Twice a week.

I've noticed a huge change...no more dry itchy scalp and fuller hair

Re: Castor oil OR Conut oil --- hair care

Not or... and!

Khatti's recipe sounds good. I have fine hair and not a lot of it so I'm more sparing with my oil. I mix 4 drops of coconut oil to one drop of castor oil (it's too thick to apply on its own) in the palm on my hand and then I massage this directly on my scalp (massage it in really well) to keep the dryness and itchiness away... it also helped with hair fall. I concentrate on one area of my scalp at at time so I go back for more oil about two more times. I do this about twice a week. I haven't found I need to shampoo it any more than otherwise to get rid of the oiliness because you are hopefully massaging the oil onto the scalp, not getting it all over your hair.

Re: Castor oil OR Conut oil --- hair care

How do you prepare egg yolk mask?

Castor oil OR Conut oil --- hair care

just mix up an egg yolk or two and apply starting from scalp.

you can get fancy and add various other ingredients such as: banana, avocado, honey, olive oil, mayo...
measurements are dependent on hair length.

Thanks

Re: Castor oil OR Conut oil --- hair care

Thanks I will try the egg yolk mask. Actually today I applied a amla and shikakai hair pack. Basically I took equal quantity of amla and shikakai powder and made a paste of it with water and boiled it. In the shower I poured this on my head and let it sit for about 5 mins before washing it off. After my hair dried, I lost huge amount of hair in brushing and now everytime I run my fingers thru my hair alteast 10 strands r coming out. I don't know what I did wrong to get such bAd result from it cuz I have only read and heard good things about amla and shikakai for hair.

Re: Castor oil OR Conut oil --- hair care

I wanted to try amla but I did not get it yet. If anyone has experience with amla please do let me know. Pakigirl33 you scared me yikesss I am trying coconut and castor oil mixed together. Maybe ill also add natural aloe vera

Re: Castor oil OR Conut oil --- hair care

I bought Jamaican black castor oil. It stops hair fall immediately after use and reviews suggest that it even regrows hair. (Though I haven't used it that many times to notice). I use it a few hours before shower by warming it up a little and massaging all over scalp. My hair shines like crazy after use and hair fall stops for at least a week after just one use.

Re: Castor oil OR Conut oil --- hair care

how do you ladies wash out the oil? everytime i apply oil, i end up having to shampoo a few times to get it out and that totally defeats the purpose.

Re: Castor oil OR Conut oil — hair care

Why does that defeat the purpose? :konfused:

The point of oiling your hair is not to leave the strands coated in oil, it’s for the emollients in the oils to absorb into the scalp and follicles. Very few people need oil at the tips of their hair. The scalp/roots is where the oil is needed. Only oil that part. By using a heated towel, your opening up the follicles of the hair shaft and helping those oils absorb. Shampooing after leaving it that way overnight is necessary so that you’re not a walking oil rig the next day lol. It takes me one regular dime size application of shampoo to get my scalp and roots clean the next day.

Re: Castor oil OR Conut oil --- hair care

First of all find out what is causing your hair to shed. Get your blood work done, because if you lost your hair due to iron deficiency, for example, your hair will regrow when you get to the normal level. I had had to take iron supplements and once I got it back up to normal levels, the doctor had me stop taking it. :)

I have never tried castor oil, but I have always heard good things about it. You can also try taking biotin supplements but do ask your doctor first.

I have also tried blow drying after using oil to help with absorption. I noticed my hair felt a lot more moisturized, healthier and shiny after.

Re: Castor oil OR Conut oil --- hair care

I totally understand. I like oiling my hair from the roots to the tips as well as massaging it into my scalp. Shampooing it was a pain especially since I naturally have oily hair. Now everytime I oil my hair overnight I apply a mask of ~3\4 cup yoghurt+1 egg+1tbsp of honey the next morning. I leave it in for 1 to 2 hrs and wash my hair after. It gets rid of all the oiliness and I barely have to use any shampoo. It seems tedious but works like a charm.

Re: Castor oil OR Conut oil --- hair care

Olive oil is the best :)

Re: Castor oil OR Conut oil --- hair care

Guys I hv very thin and dry hair nd I'm so much worried abt them plz suggest me how can I make them thick nd healthy, waiting for some serious response

Re: Castor oil OR Conut oil --- hair care

LOL, that's what this entire thread is about. Read the above comments, hopefully some of these suggestions will help you

Re: Castor oil OR Conut oil --- hair care

I recently went for a trim and told the hairdresser how my hair has become noticeably thinner since last year.. I am assuming it is because last year I professionally bleached my hair alot and it probably stressed out my hair. although seeral of my friends have gotten their hair bleached repeatedly, and their hair never fell out, so I don't know whats up with mine.

anyway - I also mentioned to her that I regularly (1-2 times a week) oil my hair, and she advised me NOT to. saying that doing oil massages more than once a month is overkill since our scalp produces natural oil and the extra oil massages will end up blocking our glands, preventing hair to grow.

I have tried researching this online, but to no avail.

I haven't put oil in my hair for about 2 weeks now, and my hair is super itchy. I'm not worried about my hair growing, I'm worried about the density

Should I continue with my oil treatments and disregard what she said?

Re: Castor oil OR Conut oil --- hair care

very nice ,, Thanks to add this . i use olive oil . .. sometimes ...

Re: Castor oil OR Conut oil --- hair care

mix 2/5 parts coconut oil, 2/5 parts oilve oil and 1/5 parts castor oil (as castor oil is very dense). shake well and store in a bottle. slightly warm before applying and massage well for atleast 10 mins. Wash it off with lukewarm water.
