Caste System

Re: Caste System

Chaudhry doesn't hold meaning anymore, every second person you see is a self proclaimed chaudhry. I could become a chaudhry right now if I wanted to.

Re: Caste System

^ So true. Sometimes people don’t do their homework. One of my neighbours said they were rajput chaudrys :cb:

Re: Caste System

lolz I understand your confusion totally ..and a even bigger lol on gujjars being Rajpoot! I bet those werent even Gujjars! its just like someone once said online here, that first they are muchis, then they make money and buy land and become chaudhary's and then they go ultra religious and become syeds lol .. But I think people who are into caste have a family three or something like that I have seen and heard so at least.

In Pakistan people are very much into the caste system while marrying and a friend of mine is Syed, they dont marry outside caste, but now they are even afraid to marry outside family, because they have heard about so many frauds where people are not Syed, but claim to be, but of course at one point or another unki asleeyat samne ajati hai.. Thats sort of sad and funny

Re: Caste System

Sweetmoi is correct about the term chaudhry.....its suffix used by many different castes....just like Mian......its used by Araains, Shaikhs etc etc...

Re: Caste System

Yup. I am not into superiority of castes or anything. But I think they can be a great way to identify where does a person come from and stuff - just like tribes in Arab culture. My family is jatt, and we don't marry out of caste either, but now-a-days it can be ignored since you're not even sure if the other people are telling the truth or not especially in the big cities. One of my cousin was married into rajputs and the rest of the family have boycotted them as a protest. I think its very weird since now-a-days it shouldn't be such a big deal with all the education and stuff but some people are still quite into such things.

Wait.. Shiekhs too!? That's a new one for me.

Re: Caste System

That is sad indeed. Syeds in fact are the most uptight about marrying outside the caste, especially Syed girls. A friend of mine's relationship broke down because the Syed girl's parents would not contemplate marrying her to a non-Syed in any circumstances. This is a wholly unislamic practice.

Re: Caste System

I agree .. lol you are a Jatt, I should had guessed! They usually dont like Gujjars and vice versa and dont consider each other being the "same" either ... :p ;) I am just teasing :)

Actually I think the new generation is not so interested in the caste system if everything else is perfect during a rishta process. Personally I think it shouldnt be as big as an issue as it has been made of, but I think it is in Pakistan, because everyone is so tended to look down on each other. So basically I think thei thought is "how can u marry someone lower than urself" its not the right way to think .. My own guess is also that its probably because all of this that people just go around and claim whatever they find suitable lol .. Well maybe in a few generations time it will be gonne .. who knows :)

Re: Caste System

Does anyone know how these castes rank? Which one is supposed to be the highest and the best?

Re: Caste System

True. Syeds are super strict with their girls. They actually believe it is un-islamic to marry other muslim. My friends cousin was having a fling with a Jatt guy and her brother said she was no longer a muslim and if she married him, she would be a kaffir shocking. My friend herself did also tell me a story of a syed man who had a daughter the King wanted to marry, but as the King wasnt syed, the father didnt want the marriage to take place, so he wished for betterness and the girl died. She actually even mentioned a source to that in some of their books, but I dont recall the name. And there have been several times where she says herself that a syedzadi cannot marry an ummi (umtih). I think their whole purpose is to keep the bloodline of the Prophet (PBUH) clean.

Re: Caste System

I think you'll get different answers according to who you ask, because the different caste like Malik, Rana, Jatt, Gujjar, Arain, Raja etc etc all sort of look down upon each other .. but the ranking I have been explained is as following

  • Syeds
  • Royals
  • Landlords
  • Workers
  • Kammis (I dnt know what u would call them in english?)

Re: Caste System

LMAO!!......... Like the syeds in south asia are pure bloodline .........and rest of the muslims are not-clean for syeds........thats soooooper !!

Actually the industrialists are called Mian sb......like nawaz sharif = kashimiri,,,,,,,,Mian Mansha=chinioti sheikh..........

Re: Caste System

Yeah I'm sure the brother is the final authority on who's kaffir and who's not. I have half a mind to marry a Syed girl just to spite brothers like these.

Re: Caste System

LOL.. now that is discusable, unfortunalty my knowledge is tooo limited so I wont say anything :p

Actually I have never heard of Sheikh being called Chaudharys' but Mian is often used

Re: Caste System

True, I was kinda offended by this remark when I heard it. Now I dont have enough knowlegde abt Syeds to discuss it with the, but still calling a muslim Kaffir just like that is taking a bit too far! Personally I know the brother is not much of a good muslim himself, he has something going on with a cousin and a girl in another country tsk tsk

Re: Caste System

hmm cool, I'm a worker then (I'm a Malik of some kind, I forgot the exact type..and my mum's a Rana if that is a caste).

Re: Caste System

You're good.....don't worry :D

if you have money.....you are sayyid for all..

Re: Caste System

Good, now that I’m Syed I don’t need to worry about good deeds anymore, I’m going straight to heaven :biggthumb:

Re: Caste System

maybe yes...i am not sure about it.

Re: Caste System

Hmm...all i know is that we are mughals...anyone know anything else about them?
Not that it matters to me but just out of curiosity...

Re: Caste System

Well heres where I wade in with the belief and all.... ;)

Okay as far as my belief is concerned I do not believe in caste system full stop. I do believe in Tribes and Clans and generalisations can be made between different Clans. However I think a meritocracy is better where it don't matter what your role is you can all work to a common goal and improve your status and move up or down the ladder according to your own merit, or lack of it.

It's good to belong to a group of peoples but it's wrong to favour one group over others.
