Indore, Dec. 22 (PTI): A case was filed against former Test cricketer Ravi Shastri in a local court here for allegedly hurting the religious feelings of Hindus by reportedly eating beef during the India-South Africa Test match in Johannesburg.
The case was filed by Bajrang Dal, Indore incharge, Manoj Malpani in the court of Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), R K Batham.
The complainant alleged that Shastri has hurt the feelings of Hindus by reportedly eating beef in full knowledge and by commenting, “though I know that I am a Brahmin, I can’t stop myself from eating the dish (billtang).”
According to advocate Rajendra Sharma, the comment of Shastri in this regard was aired by a channel telecasting the match from South Africa and was also published in a local daily.
The case was filed under section 295 (a) (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious belief) and 298 (a) of the IPC, he said, adding the court has fixed January 5 for recording evidence in the case.
Re: Case Filed Against Ravi Shastri, for hurting the religious feelings of Hindus
This case reminds me of another incident I glanced at, not too long ago:
Ace off-spinner Harbhajan Singh apologised to the Sikh community for “hurting” their emotions by keeping his hair open in an advertisement.
Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee chief said Harbhajan should have refrained himself from appearing in the advertisement of the company, which is associated with a well-known liquor brand.
“Harbhajan Singh should apologise for appearing in the advertisement if he considers himself to be a Sikh. Our religion prohibits keeping one’s hair open. We also strongly object to his appearing in the advertisement in this fashion. On earlier occasions too the SGPC had urged Harbhajan not to do any such action for easy money which harms the image of Sikhs.” SGPC President Avtar Singh had said.
“They compare me with Panesar, which is wrong. Comparisons should not be made in the first place, but if they have to, why SGPC does not compare me with Yuvraj Singh and Gurdas Mann (both Sikhs who have trimmed their hair),” Harbhajan said.

This is too much from the right wing. Unless the cricketer has said something against the religion, the case stands no ground. It will be thrown out by the courts.

Well...you can ridicule Hindus and India's secular status and it is considered relevant to "Khel Khelari".
But when I mentioned that the religious sentiments of Hindu extremists had become just as fickle as their Muslim counterparts - my post gets censored.
Re: Case Filed Against Ravi Shastri, for hurting the religious feelings of Hindus
Shoaib akhtar's antics of drinking and flirting with women in some club, which is regarded highly unislamic, were discussed in great detail in KK. This is a similar case where a cricketer is involved by apparently insulting a large number of people based on his actions.
Re: Case Filed Against Ravi Shastri, for hurting the religious feelings of Hindus
There is outrageous people in Hindu's and Muslim's, who file these kind of cases or say certain things in media just for attention. We shouldnt be discussing this and bringing religions into such a matter.
