Just trying to do simple math before rejoicing on this.

Pakistan already has excess power generation capacity…and IPPs are currently paid a little more than Rs.15 per unit. IPPs currently produce about 30% of Pakistan’s total production…after operating at less than 50% of their capacity.

For CASA 1000, we will pay 12 cents per unit to Afghanistan (an unreliable partner) as transit fees, and based on what was determined, Tajikistan and Kazakhstan will charge around 2 cents per unit. This results in a total cost of around 32 cents(or more)for Pakistan…or 32 rupees a unit.

Now why cant the govt actually supply full fuel to IPPs so that they operate at peak capacity, and at a much lesser price than CASA? Perhaps the opportunity for commissions has dried out in IPPs, which is why they had to play the cruel Nandipur game.

And lets see if you can do some basic economics. Answer the following questions:

1. What is the expected population growth rate in Pakistan over the next 10 years?
2. What is the expected demand on our power generating infrastructure over the next 10 years?
3. How much of the expected demand is commercial?
4. To sustain a growth rate which is higher than our population growth rate, how much more infrastructure development will we need to undertake in the next 10 years.
5. What has been the growth of power demand in Pakistan over the past 10 years? Hint: It plays into forecasting future demand.

This is why I say you PTI supporters put PTI first and everybody else second.
