CASA 1000 finally got 100% funding

Power project: IDB agrees to fill financing gap in CASA-1000 project – The Express Tribune

This should benefit the country immensely. It is cheaper than then the two current power plants. Nehlum and Nandipur or something.

1.25 cents for a unit as a transit fee is good. That is what 12.5 rupees per unit. Now hopefully the cost of electricity won’t be like 50 rupees a unit and we should have a good steady stable source of power soon. Inshallah.

Re: CASA 1000 finally got 100% funding

Just trying to do simple math before rejoicing on this.

Pakistan already has excess power generation capacity…and IPPs are currently paid a little more than Rs.15 per unit. IPPs currently produce about 30% of Pakistan’s total production…after operating at less than 50% of their capacity.

For CASA 1000, we will pay 12 cents per unit to Afghanistan (an unreliable partner) as transit fees, and based on what was determined, Tajikistan and Kazakhstan will charge around 2 cents per unit. This results in a total cost of around 32 cents(or more)for Pakistan…or 32 rupees a unit.

Now why cant the govt actually supply full fuel to IPPs so that they operate at peak capacity, and at a much lesser price than CASA? Perhaps the opportunity for commissions has dried out in IPPs, which is why they had to play the cruel Nandipur game.

Re: CASA 1000 finally got 100% funding

And lets see if you can do some basic economics. Answer the following questions:

  1. What is the expected population growth rate in Pakistan over the next 10 years?
  2. What is the expected demand on our power generating infrastructure over the next 10 years?
  3. How much of the expected demand is commercial?
  4. To sustain a growth rate which is higher than our population growth rate, how much more infrastructure development will we need to undertake in the next 10 years.
  5. What has been the growth of power demand in Pakistan over the past 10 years? Hint: It plays into forecasting future demand.

This is why I say you PTI supporters put PTI first and everybody else second.

Re: CASA 1000 finally got 100% funding

And lets see if you bothered to read anything other than the news you posted, or was it just your daily anti-PTI rant opportunity at work.

According to CASA. CASA 1000 will start with 1000MW, and will **reduce **with every passing year, owing to increased demand in the producing countries themselves. Whereas Pakistan's demands will go up as well. Even at its peak 1000MW, it will be about 5% of Pakistan's total needs. So there wont be any economic feasibility for Pakistan to spend more than $1billion for a quantity of 1000MW that will reduce proportionally every year, when we are already sitting on excess capacity.
The 'cheap' electricity that we buy from CASA will turn out to be more than twice as expensive than what we already have sitting un-utilized.

That is why I say that you N-league supporters put personal business interests first, and country last.

Re: CASA 1000 finally got 100% funding

How is it gonna reduce? You literally mean that the two countries are not going to build more infrastructure for the future? More so that Afghanistan is not going to develop its own electrical network? That can't be what you are saying?

Re: CASA 1000 finally got 100% funding

Exactly!

CASA-1000 power project: Pakistan may import up to 4,000MW, says Aziz – The Express Tribune

And it may actually go up to 4000.

So much for PTI caring about Pakistan.

Re: CASA 1000 finally got 100% funding

As expected, noone bothers to read facts from the horses mouth(CASA1000 website), and resorts to posting favorable clippings. Quite funny from someone who eats sleeps and breaths the sentence 'wheres the proof'.

Both Kyrgyz and Tajik govts have said that transmission will reduce over the years. Plus, saleable power is only going to come from existing resources. New infrastructure will not be used for the project.

CASA 1000 is slated to be completed in a minimum of 5 years....(Wait 5 years for 1000MW of expensive electricity?)
CASA 1000 line is designed for a maximum of 1300 MW to be exported to Pakistan. (1300MW convertor is planned in Peshawar as part of the project)
CASA 1000 will utilize existing power sources, and nothing additional will be installed (Russian offer of 'OMG' 5000MW will require new transmission lines as the current one is designed for 1300MW only.
Apart from the $200 million Pakistan will pay for installation, they will pay around 35 rupees a unit for the electricity.

My initial question still remains unanswered. We are paying $200 million, with a promise to pay Rs. 35 a unit for a max of 1300MW (Will believe the 5000MW russian power when I see it). IPPs already have about 5000MW sitting idle, which the govt can buy at Rs. 15 per unit. Why cant that be initated?

Its obvious that business opportunities are at work here, and because of zero transparency, we wont know the details till its perhaps too late.

Re: CASA 1000 finally got 100% funding

That didn’t answer my question. And you know it. You are avoiding the matter.

How will it reduce? Please provide proof of your statment.

And you can’t read. The transmission is slated for 1,300 total. 1,000 for Pakistan and 300 or Afghanistan. No where does it say that a **“maximum of 1300 MW to be exported to Pakistan”.
**
Taken from the CASA website itself: **Both Tajikistan and the Kyrgyz Republic have substantial (about 80,000 MW) hydropower potential, only a relatively small proportion of which (about 10 %) has been developed to date.

But for some reason according to Silaaj for some reason the electricity available will reduce.

Re: CASA 1000 finally got 100% funding

Like I said before, read something other than news sources that favor your stance.
CASA 1000 website mentions the fact that transmission will reduce gradually owing to growing internal demands of Kyrgyz and Tajiks. Secondly, the line is designed to transmit up to 1300MW to Pakistan, which is why a 1300MW converter will be installed in Peshawar.
As for the maximum 1300MW part, all it takes is a bit of common sense. A 1300MW transmission line cannot carry 5000MW. This is not WAPDA.

Re: CASA 1000 finally got 100% funding

Prove it.
