Cartoons

So I was having a bonga conversation with K337 and somehow topic changed to cartoons, that how cartoons are different now. There is a new breed of cartoon characters and classic characters like Micky mouse, Tom & Jerry, Donald Duck, Duffy Duck etc are a thing of the past! You can find them in Disney Land, but not in media production.
Also the theme has changed, before it was light goofy humour, and in today’s cartoons it’s animated sci-fi action! when did this happen!

Does this mean that today’s children are more interested in science/fiction than fantasy and goofy humour?

Re: Cartoons

I don't think it was ever children's choice, what they made us watch on TV we watched and same for the children of present day.

Same thing is happening with literature, kids read that's "popular" in media even if it's crappy literature.

My kids watch "Sarah Jane's Adventures" which is a sci-fi but they also watch "Merlin" and "Grandpa in my pocket" which are fairytale snd fantasy series. They don't like watching cartoons except X-men which is also kinda sci-fi but they watch it for action. So they're limited to these 2 or 3 shows really.

I believe they like them because I like watching these shows.:D

But you can make any kid like anything.

Re: Cartoons

i think kids are basically fascinated by animation ,i dont think they even follow the storyline the cartoons nowadays have.

I really miss tom & jerry .they were simple yet always amusing. Nowadays cartoons keep going on like serials do:hmmm: but they are still fun.i love cartoons anyways

Re: Cartoons

Hareem I think it has more to do with commercialism. There is much broader market for X-man type cartoona merchandise than Tom & Jerry. Since now they focus on "BRAND", its much profitable to introduce a new product (character) and sell new merchandises?

Re: Cartoons

***Most of the prior genre of cartoons like Tom & Jerry are “banned” figuratively speaking , citing violence !

I mean hey look how we turned out :hehe:***

We turned out just fine.

Yeah that's what I meant when I said popular in media....commercialism that is. It's easy for consumers to target children so they put a lot of money and effort in advertisings but if you're aware then you can avoid it easily.

Tum to poori cartoon ho yaar…!

I haven't really watched cartoons recently but back in the 90's when I used to watch cartoons on Saturday mornings, they had stuff like X-Men, Spiderman, Gargoyles, Battletech, Transformers among others, along with the Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Bugs Bunny and so on. The sci-fi animated stuff doesn't seem like something very new to me.
