there are different views on this topic, and people seem to forget the purpose of the whole image debate. It was so people dont start worshipping such images. It was true in that day and age to those ppl.
I highly doubt that anyone in their sane mind will start woshipping scooby doo or Johnny Bravo.
There are many educational cartoons created to teach kids about the religion and cartoons have been shown on TV in even very conservative countries like Saudi Arabia, where if the clerics had an issue with it, they would have banned them.

I concur, Marvel has more interesting characters for the most part, but the new series Smallville on WB is pretty cool.
