Re: Carry on thrashing - Brit public backs troop brutality
People tend to group together when they see a perceived threat. Similar to bin Laden being admired by 65% of Pakistanis.
Where have I been a goraphobic? If the polls suggest that a vast majority in a nation back up such heinous crimes, then it's this vast majority that has issues. I never singled out any goras, kalas, or desis. When Muslims carried out violent protests I condemned them. I never backed them up blindly just because they happen to be Muslims.
Also, could you please state a source for 65% of Pakistanis admiring the individual that you've mentioned?
Why is that I see you speaking ill of Islam and Muslims when Muslims resort to shenanigans, but not when its others? Where are your comments putting down people who think it's okay to let their forces get off the hook after they have abused the citizens of other nations?
Re: Carry on thrashing - Brit public backs troop brutality
^ You must have missed this in the thread about the incident.
I mentioned goraphobic because you implied if Muslims had done this it would have been Islmaophobes that would be upset, as opposed to anyone who would be against excessive violence.
Re: Carry on thrashing - Brit public backs troop brutality
The Sun is the biggest selling newspaper in Britain. it was their campaign, reflecting the British mood, which led to the arrest of the mock suicide bomber last week. The police had no inclination to act until under public pressure, supported by the Sun, they were forced to make a showcase arrest.
OG, you are a Yank, you have no idea what the public mood is in Britain. I am a Brit who lives way up north where the army get the majority of their recruitments. I can guarantee you that the vast majority of British squaddies from these areas would love to administer a good kicking to those Iraqis, and this is borne out by the fact that these scenes are captured on film, in full view of other serving troops for the record.
Incidentally, the Sunday paper which reported these abuses is a sister paper of The Sun. On the Sunday they ‘exposed’ the brutality of supposedly rogue elements of British armed forces in Iraq - by today their daily version was reflecting British mood by backing the ‘rogue’ elements!
Anyway, I think Stu summed up the British opinion best when he said:
“the moral of the story is, don’t throw rocks at soldiers unless you’re sure that you can outrun them”
Good point Stu. No doubt if foreign soldiers were in your country you’d throw donuts and confetti.

X, surveys are a matter of how you ask the question. You ask people would you like to give the Iraqi street rabble a good smacking, people would say yes. Nobody likes British deaths due to chaos. On the other hand, if you ask people should youths be beaten to a pulp, and should soldiers be punished for extrajudicial beatings, you would get 90% yes.
Provacative questions sell papers, and bring back viewers. Infotaiment is a booming business. What the British people really feel is far more complicated than a stupid phone in poll reveals. Are Muslims shallow or complicated?
Re: Carry on thrashing - Brit public backs troop brutality
i think i hit a raw nerve of these islamphobes who sticking up for the British Occupiers who beat up youngsters, but then again these islamaphobes make excuses for Abu gharib and use of chemical weapons on Iraqis so don’t be surprised by their attacks on anything not in agreement with their bigot views!
Re: Carry on thrashing - Brit public backs troop brutality
Thanks for the props. I’m not sure what I’d use for projectiles, but I’d be sure as hell that I would be able to get away. These kids got beaten for being stupid as much as anything else.
Re: Carry on thrashing - Brit public backs troop brutality
How would you know what British people feel if you don’t mind me asking? Do you live here? The general consensus here is that British troops are heroes, and if they kick seven colours of $hit out of Iraqis who won’t toe the line, then they probably deserved it. This includes launching a hard boot at the genitals of anyone caught by the soldiers, while being filmed and goaded on by a fellow soldier. All’s fair in love and war guv.
