can ne one give me info on how u do medical in the carribean, how much it costs, what r the requirments to get in and the whole programm thing? thanx
well, where in the carribean do you wanna go?
if you dont know yet, then you should consider St. George as your first choice (it is on the top ranked carribean med school and you get to do all of your clinicals in the US). you only have to be there for a i think 2 years and they really prepare you well for the boards.
i didnt go there so i dont know how much it costs.
but i went to another carribean school and am now doing my residency, but my school cost a lot of money (at least $3000, per semester and there were three semesters per year). this was just the tuition. this did not include living arrangements, books etc.
all of that was extra.
instead of the carribean, i have heard a lot of ppl go to UK. some ppl left my school and ended up going there instead because the clinicals are in English in UK as opposed to the carribean school where you have to learn another language.
you can PM me if you want any other info about this, since i'm a foreign grad and now doing my residency (almost done...yeah!!!)
good luck with your search
thanx ur info helps alot. can u tell me if the experience was worth it, or was it really hard there? but i heard u have to have atleast two years undergrad and take the mcad to. is that right? or do u think med in pak is a better idea. also some people told me i could to 1 or 2 years in pak and then go to the carribean. like if one year in pak doesn't work out then i can go there, but i dont know if they will accept that as undergrad bc it's actually medical school. and i heard they were kinda desperate so they take ne one. thanx for the help buddy.
I'm,
I'm sorry I don't know too much about Carribean schools. I have heard of the St. Geroge school though - it's supposed to be the best of the lot.
I have a question for you though. Why are you interested to go to the Carribean and not Pakistan? If you intend on leaving the States for med school on way or the other, I think you'll be better off in Pakistan.
"was the experience worth it?"
i would have to say yes. it was the first time i was away from my parents, but i'm a good girl, i went there to study, finished my studies and came back home. but i really enjoyed my freedom there. but i studied hard and thats what helped me be where i am today.
"was it really hard?"
well yes. it is MEDICAL school. of course its expected to be hard. And if you go into it with that attitude, you can go through it all with flying colors.
"undergrad prior to going there?"
i went there straight out of high school and didnt really go to undergrad here, but i'm not sure what the requirements for St. George are?
"is it a better idea to go to pak instead?"
personally i had the same two choices in front of me several years ago and I decided to go to the carribean instead for several reasons (it was close enough to my parents--2 hours on plane; cheaper than going to pak; and didnt wanna have to live wid relatives in pak). This way i got to live in another country with the freedom and responsibility I had not enjoyed thus far in my life.
so in short, that question only you can answer for yourself. is it worth it for you to go so far, but it will be your own homeland and nothing beats that!
"some people told me i could to 1 or 2 years in pak and then go to the carribean"
personally i dont think this is a good idea. i think this is going to end up wasting more of your time, rather than saving it.
btw, have you thought of staying here and studying hard to do well on the MCATs. if u dont do well, u can always do a masters while u study for MCATs and if it still doesnt work out, then go to a DO school. I have several colleagues that have done that and at the end of the day...we are equal. think about it.
actually my best friend from high school did this!
let me know if there's anything else i can help you wid!

u went straight out of high school? wow what college did u go to? by the way did u find ne desis there? and u say its cheaper than pak? wow i'd like that. can u giv eme some info on how u applied, maybe they looked at ur SAT score instead of ur Mcat, so so u know what the score reqiurement is? thanx for ur help pal. ;)
and sambrialian i'd like to go to pak and not stay here. inshallah i will. but right now i am my parents responsibilty and i have to dod what they want me to, if thats pak than ok, and if their choice for me caribbeans then ok, i guess i can always leave once im married. if it were up to me id leave here i dont care what and go to pak, but since my parents decide my future i cant do that yet, hope that satisfied u.
so I'M THE BEST to answer your questions.
yes, i went straight out of high school.
and yes there were TONS of desis there. a few too many if u ask me. and yes it did turn out cheaper than pak, cuz in pak you have to pay these "donations" in american dollars every semester and they can be expensive.
and no i didnt have to worry about SAT or MCAT scores...this was a few years ago, and i dont know if any of there requirements have changed.
and if u need more specific questions answered regarding the school and anything else, feel free to PM me.
good luck!

cool thanx for ur help zidee. it really helps. i dunno if i'm gonna be going there ne more, looks like my parents wanna stick it out in pak, but i have a few cousins who would like to go still to the carribeans. so it would be great if u could give me the info about the school u went to or u could just give the name and i'll look it up. these cousins of mine arn't too bright though, and didn't have the most amazing high school GPA so i dunno if they can get in just yet, did u take ne AP classes in highschool by the way? oh and just one more thing what's this donation thing ur talking about in Pak? i never heard ne thing about it. all i heard was that if u give a donation once than u can get in for sure, i never heard u have to give it every semester, or does that even apply to everyone? ne ways sorry to bombard u with so many questions all at once but ur help is really appreciated.
you are welcome for the info.
well, when i looked into going to med school either in lahore (KE) or fsb, thats what i had found out...this was 7-8 years ago and at that time, i was told that the "donations" were every semester. if u didn't hear that, then this may have changed since then.
i'll PM u my info for school
