I currently have carpet on my stairs, hallway and bedrooms. Im thinking of getting rid of the carpet on the stairs and hallway and replacing with hardwood floors/stairs. I also want to get new wall to wall carpeting in the bedrooms. I don’t have kids right now, should i wait to replace the carpet into the future kid’s room? Also what do you guys think of getting hardwood floors in the hallway and stairs instead of carpet?
My thinking is that carpet is hard to vacumn on stairs, and hallway has a bathroom, i know that when guests come they might not take off their shoes and it kind of got me to think to only have carpet in the bedrooms and in the hallway just have a runner, atleast i can hand wash the runner in my backyard during spring cleaning?
I have tiles downstairs and laminate flooring upstairs and stairs.
It is so hard to maintain upstairs You can notice even tiny particle o f dust. I wish I hard carpet. With carpet at least you don’t see dust. With laminate or hardwood u will need to clean every 2nd or 3rd day.
We have wood floors and dust does become noticeable very quickly.. was mulling over cream carpet or marble tiles because I love the look of both but haven’t made a decision yet..
Definitely need to do something about the bedroom floor at least.. thats the room that bugs me the most.. I miss the feel of thick Saxony carpet under my feet
I have carpeted Stairs and woodfloor, laminate, tiles in all other other rooms. No carpet.
Believe me, if you want to get that awesome “everything is sparkling clean” feeling, then dont go for the carpet. Its making my life hell to clear the stairs with a carpet cleaner and it gets really dirty. Vacuum is just not enough for the heavy use stair case. So I definitely recommend that you go for either laminate or wood flooring for the stairs ..
The only benefit of a carpet on the stairs , that I can see , is that , when you fall accidentally , you dont get hurt
having had all scenarios in the past, I would definitely go with hardwood everywhere except bathrooms…and perhaps have marble or some other natural stone in the kitchen.
I like the idea of cleaning/sweeping every day or other day…keeps things cleaner than if you got lazy with wall to wall carpeting.
Exactly as Muzna said , keeps things cleaner. I know hard wood floors are hard to maintain coz you can see the tiniest of kachra on them ! but hey thats the whole point, it actually gives you the motivation to clean up , coz you can see the dirt. The more the motivation , the more clean your home
Most people like hardwood, but I like carpets as I cant stand the sound of walking, running, non carpeted surfaces make. I also like things that are easy to clean like brown carpets vs the off white ones as I would rather do other things but to each their own.
