Those of you living in Canada / America. How do you clean your carpets.
There is a rule here that we have to get the carpet shampooed before we leave an apt. I have called around to check the prices and it is quite expensive.
Pls share how you clean your carpets? Do you rent equipment. Pls pls share your tips and advice.
Check with your appt complex management. Some dont want you to rent the equipment, but to go with the professional cleaners. Others dont mind. If they dont, then go ahead with the rental equipment.
When we were renting, we just let the management deduct some money out of security deposit for carpet cleaning. Its much better than getting it done on your own.
If you're willing to do it yourself, it's pretty cheap. Just go to any hardware store (HomeDepot, ACE Hardware etc) and they have carpet cleaners. They're like vacuum's with suction/brushes. All you have to do is fill them with water and whatever soap/detergent you want to. They work really well and I think it's 75 dollars for a 3 day rental, at ACE Hardware anyways.
yep we rent it from a local company... $30/day (our valley coupon book usually has a $5 off coupon in it too for rental) and we never had to rent it for more than a day.
check lowes and home depot.. they offer rental as well.
And what detergent is best to use with these? Can I use stuff like oxyclean?
Jr. Has done quite a number on the carpets and we have strawberry stains as well as Apple juice stains.
TLK Bhai, apt.complex management has no.issues.
And bebo if our landlords deduct the money they will be deducting upwards if 250 dollars so just wanted to get an idea.
you can ask the company and they will suggest the cleaner for you.. but you want to treat the stains before you begin the clenaing.. if you dont want to use harsh chemicals because of babies in the house, use vinegar plus water solution.. that may help you remove stains.
you can rent the steamer/deep cleaning equipment and that may help.
Not sure if it will work on stains that are old and have already set-in.But I have very easily and successfully removed stains of strawberries, soda and even salan (don't ask how they got there..!) with dish soap. You can also use a tiny bit of laundry detergent. It just needs a lil scrubbing and it is good.
For some old stains I used Resolve once.It was like a spot treatment thing and worked great.
You will have to spot clean the stains before you rent the carpet cleaners. My local grocery store also does the cleaner rental and so does Home depot etc.I hope it wont be hard to find.
Then rent the machine. Also, do not use any regular soap/detergent in that machine. That would create a lot of foam. Use the cleaning liquid designed for steam cleaning. You will find the 1/2 gallon of it sitting next to the machine, at you local hardware store.
I didn't know carpets had to be shampooed, is it for the carpets that are in bad shape? We just moved to a new apartments, our carpets were spotless, all we did was vacuum them.
So true!! I live in a carpet free house. We got rid of it completely....all bedrooms/living areas/hallways are hardwood floors now...kitchen/baths/laundry are tile....makes my life so much easier
I also like to keep my rental properties without carpet as much as possible....we usually use laminate wood floors in all living areas, again, tile in all "wet areas" and keep the carpet in bedrooms only. That way, when I have tenant turnover, and cleaning time comes, or I have to change it out altogether, it's not a bank busting expense.
