Caribbeans for vacation.

Re: Caribbeans for vacation.

cayman islands/grand cayman? :D

Re: Caribbeans for vacation.

^ yea its a famous tourist place I heard :hmmm:

St. Martin (?) is another one I heard…heard of it?

Re: Caribbeans for vacation.

Tobago ROCKS. It is very small but a gorgeous gem. So you can have the most stunning beaches and amazing parties if you go to the clubs with the locals. The natural beauty there is jaw-dropping. Beaches AND rainforest (dont miss the waterfall/lagoon in the middle of the rainforest). Definitely NOT a sophisticated place - very casual and I guess you could say rural. Locals are beautiful, love tourists but dont beg as much as on other islands - and they LOVELOVELOVE to dance the night away.

Aruba is nice, very beachy and much more upscale shopping, restaurants etc.

Grenada sucked. Nasty locals, beaches ok but not the best. Beggars EVERY where.

Barbados was lovely but wasnt the best - I mean everything from beaches to hotels, restaurants, sights were all fine but not jaw-dropping.

St Thomas is very nice but I didnt see much of it - went to an all-inclusive and stayed there. It was great.

If you have the funds, Nevis is the perfect caribbean playground. Never went myself but I keep playing lotto. VERY expensive and exclusive, you can have 5-star hotel and pristine beach all to yourself, top-notch restaurants and get pampered beyond beleif. Things like personal waiter service on the beach with waiters who come by every now and then to spray you with a mist of cool water as you bake in the sun with your umbrella drink.

Re: Caribbeans for vacation.

What would be there for Muslim desis? Beach is a no go, food options are limited, and night life choices are nil.

Re: Caribbeans for vacation.

dont be such a stick-in-the-mud tdw! Beach CAN be fine for desis - light muslin skirts etc - there are more people than you'd think who dont get all bare on the beach. If you like pure white sugary sand, palm trees swaying and sky-blue water then theres no reason to stay away. Umbrella drinks are not necessarily laced with alcohol, many are really just fruit smoothies. Most desis like music and dancing and if you go to the right island, you will find this in joyful abundance if you WANT to. Otherwise, you are more than welcome to enjoy the tropical breeze on the beach while watching a sunset that can be more spectacular than any firework show. As far as food choices, they eat beef and goat which is acceptably halaal right? It might be somewhat difficult to find strictly halaal meats but on islands like trinidad and tobago, there is a nice population of Muslims so would be easier there. And you'd see more hijaabis even on the beach. Anyway, dont knock it esp if you like the beach!

Re: Caribbeans for vacation.

Mamaof3, desis will get tanned at the beach, and that's a bad thing. How will they now talk about their proud heritage with a tanned skin?

And Muslims desis like dancing? Like clubs and stuff? Since when? Ok well I agree a certain kind of Muslim would, the run of the mill kind probably doesn't.

Re: Caribbeans for vacation.

You're right. Muslim should stick to their basements reading the quran and slaughtering goats.

Re: Caribbeans for vacation.

:hehe:

personally, beaches and stuff are not my thing at all. but i know there are pretty religious people who go to beaches/islands for honeymoons and enjoy themselves. so to each their own na

HOPE YOU GOT ENUF RESPONSES

Re: Caribbeans for vacation.

EMM, we go to the Caribbean twice a year, we almost always go to Cozumel because we’re both divers and Cozumel has the second largest barrier reef on the western side of the Island. On the eastern side there are some BEAUTIFUL beaches as in here.

Turks and Caicos is also really nice and so is St. Lucia. The Caymans are VERY expensive. I personally really like the Mayan Riviera and the Yucatan peninsula, LOTS to do.

Re: Caribbeans for vacation.

Ahmed, how much does the trip usually cost you?

Re: Caribbeans for vacation.

HHL, the Cozumel trips usually cost about $3500 for 7 nights:

Airfare for two: $1100 (about $550 x 2)
Seven nights at a decent resort: $1250
5 days of two tank dives, 1 night dive, 1 additional afternoon dive: $800 (for 2 people. The dives are with Aqua Safari, the BEST dive shop on the island, a little bit more spendy, but boy are they good, they know every dive site like the back of their hands, the dive masters are very experienced, the boats are in very good shape AND have a head which is very important to the wife. Last year we had some divers on board that were inexperienced and were making things not so much fun for us, we told the dive master and within half an hour we docked and they were asked to leave, yaaaay)
Food and snacks: $300 (we don’t drink, so alcohol prices aren’t in here, we eat everywhere from the spendy sea food, touristy places, to where the construction workers eat. Tip: don’t eat at restaurants on the water front, they are spendy for no reason, go deeper into the city, don’t be concerned that no one speaks English, it’s part of the fun, pointing at food and then pointing at your tummy.)

With Cozumel, you can also visit two of the Mayan ruins on the Island, they’re pretty cool. If you’re really into the ruins, you can take a ferry to the mainland, into Cancun, get on a bus, and get to Chichin Itza, it’s a good day trip.

I would also recommend renting a scooter for the day and drive around the Island, it will take a half a day to drive around the entire island and stopping at various beaches to sample the water. Cozumel has a service called the Green Angels that constantly drive around the island to help stranded motorists, so don’t worry about breaking down.

Ugh, now I wanna go.

I wanna go now :(
