Yup, the PAF has reopened the gates for girls to join up the GDP i.e. General Duty Pilot and Aeronautical Engineering branches of the Pakistan Air Force. The decison was announced this Sunday when half page ads ran in leading newspapers inviting girls to apply for the upcoming batches.
The selected cadets undergo training at the PAF Academy Risalpur at the CFT i.e. College of Flight Training and the CAE i.e. College of Aeronautical Engineering after few terms of basic training.
Previously women had been serving in the Medical, Air Traffic, Psychology, Met depts of the PAF and it was only 3-4 years ago that the first few girls were selected into these two frontline branches of the airforce. 3 girl pilots have passed out recently while few more would in a few months while few female CAE cadets are also about to pass out. Of which Bisma Nasim is also one. She is the one girl who deserves most credit for making the govt start female recruitment in these branches. She was also seen on many newspaper frontpages and TV news reports wearing full jump gear recently when she along with another one of her course mates made history when both of them qualified the Airborne course and earned their blue wings.
