Having a Law degree already, I am currently in the last year of medical school. Should I specialise in a medicine field or become a barrister? I am not interested in their salaries but which one is more respected in Pakistan for a female in her mid twenties??
Re: Career in Law vs Medicine
Hmmm, you should specialize in medicine.
Re: Career in Law vs Medicine
Which do you enjoy more?
Re: Career in Law vs Medicine
If I had a choice to choose one, I would have gone for Law. This is another thing people in Pakistan admire doctors more than any other profession.
Re: Career in Law vs Medicine
wow! you must be smart Ma Sha Allah. Go for medicine if you are equally interested in both.
Re: Career in Law vs Medicine
I don't know, I enjoy both equally.. Any ideas how being a female barrister in Pakistan would be?? I mean any first hand experiences? Is it a bad profession for a female in Pakistan? I believe where I am going to specialise depends on this.
Re: Career in Law vs Medicine
Why don't you combine these fields and serve as a Medical Lawyer?

Well my dad is a barrister. I met one female barristers through him, she was very well respected. Here in USA though doctors are very much in demand and well respected. Where are you currently?
Re: Career in Law vs Medicine
@Lilly good idea thank you, though I am not very sure it will give me the reward of eight years uni education :(
@eastern11, I am local in the UK but I have moved to Pakistan after getting married, I might move back to the UK but not really confirmed as yet. As far as I know, doctors don't really get the reward in PK, and being female barrister in PK is scaring me a bit.

Joining NHS as a medical lawyer in the UK could have solved your confusion.
One of my friend is a doctor here in the UK, she said you get appreciated a lot in the field of medicine compared to Pakistan and you can improve your career while working but you get stuck in Pakistan.
Another option is that , join as a lawyer, observe yourself if you like this field stay there else switch your profession then?
