i have an engineering degree with experience in primarily automotive industry. i have considered about making a career change to the investment sector (working for G&S and the like) . i have about 4 yrs of exp (including intl) with no mba or education of any sort in financial area.
any suggestions from ppl who are already in this area ? anyone who has made a career change to investment ?
heartbeat I am not a financial expert altough I worked in financial services industry right after my masters.
its not the place to be right now, but if you did want to go into investment banking, and youhave good quantitative skills they may get you in an analyst role to crunch numbers and ride that way up, after all IB firms hire math majors too.

Get an MBA from a top 10 school if you want to be hired by a Bulge BracketInvestmentBank as an investment banker (this is true whether the financial market is good or bad).....there is no other way around....*The hiring process for top investment banks is extremely streamlined and structured…..they do not entertain applications through their websites or list those jobs publically…they come to some core schools for hiring purposes and follow a strict regimented process to hire associates (from MBA class) and analysts (from undergrad class)..... *

I am not sure about what you mean about the investment sector, however if you are referring to I-Banking, then we are talking about a very streamlined recruitment process as indicated Phoenixdesi.
If you are thinking I. Management or some other subsector, I would say that the process comparatively more open to career changers.
