I need a serious advice regarding my future study and career path. I got my Master degree in Economics almost 10 years ago from Govt.College Lahore after that I worked in a college as lecturer for one year, for 4 1/2 years I worked in a Financial Institute mostly in accounts and credit department. Then I did my own business of Computer hardware retail store. In Canada I have about 8 months experience of a customer support type job. Currently on Unemployment Insurance and thinking to spend some time on further study. The problem is to choose the right career path. There are two study options for me one is " Graduate Diploma In Accounting " from McGill University and it will take about six semesters(two years) in the evening, the other is " Attestation Of College Studies in Network Management" (AES) it will take four semesters(16 months) in the evening. I need advice from you guppies that which career path I should pursue. Actually I don’t have any formal education in I.T. but I have passion and great interest especially in computer hardware and networking, I also like accounting. But I think I will feel more comfortable working in a job related to computer hardware and networking. And one of my major concerns is the future job prospect because I want to choose a career in which not only I feel comfortable but also it has a good job prospect in future. And also if after two or three years I want to go back to Pakistan then what type of education I should pursue. Any help is greatly appreciated specially from the guppies in the I.T. field and in accounting field.

Re: Career Advice
I have also completed a Diploma in accounting From Montreal and eblieve me it doesnt work. there are no jobs and if if u can luckily get in the start salary is about 9/hour. But the basic point to find job. every where they need bilingual a nd atleast three years working experiebece in Canada. which is impossible for immigrants. They used to send your Resume to some back check agencies who varify your experienece. so try if u can the networking a nd return back to Your Heaven or atleast try your luck in Gulf. Dont waste your life in this hell of snow and hunger. i am also living in Montreal/Laval. u can contact me if u need any further guidence regarding accounting [email="[email protected]"][email protected]
And believe me this is very true , i met an agent who are working in colaboration with Emploi quebec for job search, he clearly asked me , who told you to get this diploma, i can only send you for some cleaning job. This is land of opportunitiesCANADA

Re: Career Advice
Muniya What u mean by old
I think u can learn at any age, may be a little harder at late 30,s but it all depends on u that how much u struggle for it.
Re: Career Advice
newguy, are u looking to get your CPA degree or the likes? there is tons of openings in accounting these days in US atleast. bu a general accounting diploma may not get you anywhere. U have a masters already, leverage that and see what you can do to make yourself more marketable.
Now as far as whether you should go in one fielsd versus other partially depends on proespects and partially depends on interest. Just because a field is good does nto mean everyone can thrive in it.and just because a field is not the best does not mean people can nto be doing exceptionally well in it. its a function of fit as much as it is a function of field prospects.
The I/T market was pretty saturated a few years ago and has seen some thinning out, but it is no where close to what it used to be.
As far as your experience and background goes, have you not considered working in the financial services industry? You probably have to go to some job fairs and in general network, but you can probably get in the operations of some major bank, and then chart your trajectory from there.
Re: Career Advice
Mr. Fraudia thanks a lot for a kind advice. Yes u r right regarding the accounting diploma, if I go for the accounting diploma then definitely the ultimate goal will be some kind of certification like CGA, CMA or CA.
