If you sleep on your stomach or on your left side, you are putting pressure on your heart with the extra body weight, while the heart has to continue pumping blood as usual. This additional burden wears the heart out more quickly. Think about it - you spend more than one third of your life sleeping! To reduce the strain on your heart, sleep on your right side, or on your back. This simple technique will add years to your life.

The body goes into a sort of temporary paralysis while u r asleep. Its to stop yourself from whacking yourself or something, and also to ensure the body gets rested. U may b in the paralysis phase when u wanna mmove but cant.
There is also a world wide tradition of some entity that comes in the night and sits on you to stop u from moving. I cant remember the name of it now, but ppl in countries all over the world have names for it.
