The Seniors in AP Physics had an end-of-the-year competition where we designed and built boats out of nothing but cardboard, duct tape, and trashbags. We had only 2 days to complete it so it was really rushed, but everyone did a surprisingly well job. =)
I named my ship the Pakistani Flagship. ![]()
First I made a rough design sketch
![]()
And constructed it as I would with the cardboard (I realized I had some adjustments to make with the measurements. It was too wide and the sides were way too short.)
![]()
Took it apart again and wrote all over it to convert the dimensions to real-life size

Did the same thing but this time with cardboard

Folded on the dotted lines (it’s actually way harder than it sounds lol)
![]()
Starts looking a little bit like a boat now.

I used lots of duct tape to hold it together and keep it water-resistant.

The complete boat. Duct-taped to perfection. I also taped a cut trashbag to the bottom to keep water from leaking in.

Bumper sticker
(got it off this box from the Pakistani grocery store we had laying around)

The bottom (with the trashbag)

Lettering on the side (“Pakistani Flagship”) and the final touch: Pakistani jhanda. =) woo hoo!

At the dock this morning.. some of the other boats:

I helped build this one. It’s a piece of crap.

(The winning boat, before it got body-slammed by all the guys that fell out of the other boats that all sank :D)

My boat
Everyone loved the Pakistani theme. =D
![]()
Except some of the guys from the other teams were making fun of it saying the name is longer than the boat. ![]()
My boat sank within 2-3 feet of leaving the dock (I got my friend to row it for me because I didn’t want to get wet lol). Most of the other boats ended up sinking on their own too so I didn’t feel as bad. I just felt proud for even having built it all by myself. =)
Shipwrecked (at the end of the race)

I made a video of the race… I’ll probably post it in my journal once I upload it.
