good, bad,..?

I did it myself on my car during undergrad and it was fine, but I had that car for only 3 years. I see cars with really bad tint work, bubbling and all.

any pointers, what would be a good place to get it done, prices etc?

I think here in texas,it costs around 250 for a car and 300 for suv...

in some states, its illegal

not illegal here, there are limits on how dark it can be etc. although f u have a docs note saying are photo senitive, u can get it tinted darker

it's a lifesaver here in Texas.. other states it may not be that beneficial.. I just bought the car that came with dealer supplied tinting.. don't like the DIY.. they always peel and look real ugly..

but dealers do it well, so thats why I am looking for a place that can do it well, and have no idea what prices to expect etc. One of these performance parts place (aka ricer heaven) will do it for $250 so I guess thats the going rate

new kid on the block... :)

sounds about right.. dealers charge something like that for a new car.. I think u can shop around and get it done for $200 perhaps..

Even DIY works fine, the trick is not to stick the film directly on to the glass, you need to sparay the surface with water and shampoo mixture then put the film on the glass and then slowly push the water from between the film and glass. Slight bubbles will accumilate upto one or two days which can be removed with a small needle prick without any damage to the film. Always stick the film insde the car side of the glass for durability.

I have done it many many time without any problem.

Light bearer - Nice tip, although I don't recommend the needle part.

Fraudz bhai - Here there are tons of irani shops that do 3 types of tints, 1 tint that is manufactured locally here & that is the cheapest but it develops bubbles & scratches after a few months.

2 tint is the cheap American type, which is good, but lasts only a year.

3rd is 3M, which is the best by any standard & very very reasonable, there are expensive types like VKool, etc, but they don't appeal because they are xpensive & have the same features as 3M.

I have done it on my previous cars, & on my current model, it cost me AED575, approx $160, has 4 years no bubble, no scratch warranty. I have covered the driver & passenger side with 30% which is within the legal limits & 50% on the rear windscreen, & a quarter of the front windscreen with 70%, which aint legal, but it really is required, coz of the xtreme heat here.

All this keeps my car cool, specially during summer & is perfectly all right when I drive at night, even the rear windscreen is perfect.

3M keeps out the UV ray & protects the interior, oh & one more thing...

It really looks neat when you roll the windows down & check out the chicks in the parking of your shopping mall...:D

thanks folks, I will get it done in the next week or two, I am almost a vampire when it comes to bright sunlight, so tinting will be a life saver

wait ... tint ? why you need it ?

for blocking sun rays? or for something else?

use ray-ban chashma ...
I am not in favor of tinting and tinding either, in the night it gives me problem,
the day they make photo-sun tint paper, I will install it :-p
