i am soo happy that we have a separate form for parents ,so that we can ask such questions whom answers we need in our daily life:)
I had a quick question abt the toddler car seat…which i’ve been researching and planning to buy. I read that rear facing ur child is the safest way and shud be done for as long as possible…even upto 5 years. How would the child sit comfortably and where do they keep their feet? How many of u’ll are or were rear facing the kid and upto what age?
And which car seat did u buy?? I’m still deciding if i shud get the toddler seat for now and get the booster later or get the convertible type?
uuuffff its soo confusing and making decission is soo time consuming, kindly help me out in that:D
I would recomend the convertible ones that go from newborn to toddler.
The plus about them is the fact that for the first few months from, birth to 6 months you can have it facing reverse which is a good thing because if you are travelling in the car and the baby needs feeding you can easily put a bottle to its mouth because you are facing the baby rather than twisting yourself around.
They will be a lot more expensive than the other ones but worth the money.
Also look for the ones where you can remove the cover because trust me you'll need it washing after a lot of accidents :D
it does say that its best to use rear-facing seats as long as possible but the sizes that they comes in can only support a baby upto 12 mths (20 lbs) after that their legs get cramped for space, very uncomfortable for them. never seen rear-facing seats for 4-5 yr old toddlers.
i've read and read about car seats for months, because my daughter is about ready to graduate from her infant seat to a convertible. facing rear is safer, agreed. but i'm sure you know that by the time your baby is 2 or 3, he'll not want to be facing the rear, much less sitting in a car seat. i haven't seen many kids facing the rear after they're 1...but yes - it is the safer thing!
i bought an evenflo triumph convertible seat for my daughter. i'm actually going to install it this weekend. will i face it rear? no, because i think she's ready to look out the front window now, and i feel safe doing it because her seat is side impact tested, insha'allah keeping her uninjured in the event of an accident. i have given thought to letting her stay rear-facing...but it's up to you what you decide.
i'd advise you to get a convertible...the pros and cons of convertible seat: you can face it rear for your kiddo for up to 35 lbs if you want..then you can turn them to face forward! but, if you want to take him out in a stroller - the seats are not compatible with travel systems, so you'll need to have a seperate stroller for him.
about booster seats - buy it later when your kid is a little bigger. he'll continue to use it for a while and maybe he can even help you pick which one he'll like to ride in, because some kiddos, by the age of 3, want nothing to do with their car seats! eek!
good luck on your venture for the car seat selection!
hmmmm I didnt think they made rear-facing car seats for toddlers and bigger kids. The reason its safer when they're infants is because they dont have developed neck muscles yet. I dont see how you could fit a bigger kid into a rear facing seat?
We got Sunshine Kids Radian 77 seats for our boys....they're very slim so we can fit 3 across the back of my jetta. They have the 5-point harness, it clips at the chest and at the crotch so they're very securely belted in. They were a bit expensive but they can be used for 30 lb up to 100 pounds so we'll not need to buy any other car seats.
