ok so ive seen a car seat which i would like to buy. the weight you can use it from is 0-13kg, is this a practical car seat? will it last long? i dont want to have to go and buy a new one if it means baby will outgrow it quick, id rather buy one that will last a while
^ they go from rear facing for infants up to 1 year old, to forward facing, and have higher weight/height capacity. however, if you plan on getting a stroller that will be compatible with your car seat, ie travel system style, then you cannot use a convertible carseat in that case as they do not click on to stroller frames.
personally, our kid is on track to outgrow his infant carseat well before 1 and i’m really going to miss the convenience of using it with his stroller.
The problem with convertible car seats for infants is that you cannot use them as baby carriers. They are not easily removed and installed, and don't have handy handles. We got ours after Bunny turned about a year.
We had the Chicco Key Fit 30 infant car seat and are now using the Britax Boulevard 70 (convertible).
^ how did you choose the Britax car seat you wanted? thats the one we'll probably be buying in a few months iA and they have so many options, i don't know what the differences are/which one is better?
^It was either the Marathon 70 or the Boulevard 70. The ones with the "click" feature (CS, I think?) were not recommended by friends who had them, so we didn't opt for that. The Boulevard 70 has slightly more side-impact protection, and at the time when we bought it, it was only $7 more on Amazon than the Marathon 70 was, so we just went with the Boulevard.
That's weird! We just bought a second one on Amazon (for when papa's car isn't around -- we were really stretching her infant carseat to the limits when she is in her grandparents' cars).
Also these days Britax is giving out a free carseat trolley (kids can even ride in it while being wheeled around!) with the purchase of some of their carseats.

my three month old already over 15 lbs ...and most car seats are for for 22lbs max...so i will have to get a new one in few months regardless. It really depends on your baby's size.
My only advice is to try the travel system at the store. Dont get something too heavy. During my pregnancy i didn't lift anything more thn 10lbs (as most girls dont.) I had a c-sections so didn't lift anything more thn my baby...and now when i go anywhere i have the hardest time picking the car seat and the stroller...since its sooo heavy. I didn't think abt it but not lifting heavy stuff for almost a year changes you ablility.
We bought the chicco key fit 30 travel system..I wasn't a huge fan of the stroller but I loved the car seat n still do..we thought about snap n go option but at the end it came down to space n budget..we haven't used the stroller yet hut took our 2weeks old out a few times..husband carried the car seat..I was alone for one trip to the hospital with a week old baby n I wasn't allowed to lift anything heavier than my baby too so I took the baby out of the car seat n then put him back in..time consuming but it worked out!
Now we do plan to keep the stroller in the car in case it's needed but yes it's bulky!
Just note that many strollers can become a travel system for your carseat, if you purchase an adapter. Our Citi Mini stroller (by Baby Jogger) could attach to the Key Fit 30 with a special adapter (that you have to purchase separately).
