My son is around 5.5 months old now and has already grown out his Graco Snugride car seat because of his height so we are looking for a new one that will last a while. I looked at some at babies R us but they’re all so bulky! What are some good car seats for tall babies that are light weight? We are looking for a lightweight stroller too so suggest some.
^ i hear nothing but excellent things about the Britax. its not one of those car seats that clips on to stroller frames though, so if you’re aiming that route, it might not be the best.
i’ve heard really good reviews about the Chicco Keyfit 22 or 30 as well as the Peg.
I went stroller testing yesterday, and I’ve settled on the Peg Perego Pliko Switch Compact stroller so the Peg SIP car seat is the one I’m getting with it. http://ca.pegperego.com/ca/babyproducts-catalog/2011/Pliko+Switch+Compact
The 2011 model is about 21 lbs with seat on which is very light and easy to maneouver, it turns on a dime, and is very sturdy and well built without being bulky. I’m also hoping to acquire the Italian male model in the catalogue with my purchase
(On a side note: having a baby is making me sensible! Oh noes! All the larger strollers I loved with the fancy price tags were sadly too big and bulky for me to lift by myself and public transit use would have been a nightmare. Hence the Pliko Switch Compact.)
We too are looking for a car seat for age 3 1/2-12 years thats the group 3. Daughter has turned 5!
Sofar I have looked into:
Chicco Neptun
Römer Adventure
Maxi Cosi Rodi XP
Only the chicco comes with seat straps, the other 2, use the car seat belt to hold the kid and the seat, so confusing!!
SGC!! thats a fine choice .. thats the reason why I got the peg pereggo P3 some years ago and we used it for our second kid too. For the third one I would like to get a new one so lets see what I decide for.
SGC -- we have the Chicco Key Fit 30 (which is for up to 30lbs and/or 30inches). She's only 20lbs and 28 inches, but she's beginning to look too big for it, so I feel that soon we'll need to switch. But she LOVES the carseat. It is very sturdy and comfy. We've been very happy with it (just note that it requires a separate adapter for strollers and such; unlike Graco that is usually more easily fitted).
The carseat I have is the Graco Snugride 35 which is for upto 35 pounds.
My 9 month old is 18 something pounds and about 27 inches.Last week after returning from Pakistan when I put her in it,all dressed up in the winter stuff(which kinda increased her size..:D) she hardly fit in it...!!!
She wasn't too happy being so restrained in it.
I need to get a new one too,but not sure if I should get another Graco as to go with the travel system stroller.Or I can just take her out of teh seat and put in the stroller as she is old enough now.
This carseat stuff has always been too confusing for me....!!!
:(
^She's going to get too big to be in the carseat/stroller combo. At this point I would just get a car seat on its own.
And we've had the same issue with the winter poofy dresses and coats and things. It's impossible to dress her up or dress her warmly without her screaming in the carseat. Now I just put tons of blankets over her, cuz she can't be restrained while wearing all those layers.
Hey ladies,
Thanks for helping me make a decision!! So the Britax car seats seem to be the best choice for my tall guy. I think we are going with Britax Marathon 70 Convertible car seat because we can use it until our baby is 70 lbs and is 49’’ tall. Hopefully this will be the last car seat we’ll buy until we buy a booster for him!!
but this is the car seat we got for our son.. he outgrew the baby seat at 7 months. .. so even though this seat is for kids from 9 months.. it worked very well for our son… we live in a really cold country with harsh winter season for 9 months… so he wears winter suit everytime we go out.. even with him strapped in, there is room fro him to wiggle around… the fact taht its for kids upto 12 yrs of age… that puts an end to updating the car seat for us… thankfully!
he is 1.5 yrs now… and we have taken out the top layer too.. to give him more room to feel comfy… and i like teh fact taht he doesnt sweat in it during summer (harsh summers too)… i found with the maxi cosi baby seat.. his back would be wet when i would pick him up! sweat a lot… in this seat… no such complaints.
The Peg Pliko Switch Compact isn’t technically an umbrella stroller. The Peg Si sort of is… but even then, maybe not because it does accept a car seat. That one retails for less than the Switch Compact. What about the Pliko Mini or the new Vela? The Mini is definitely an umbrella stroller and is $230.
Nice car seat! The only problem is we want to keep our baby rear facing until he turns 1 and this one doesn’t allow it! I will still check it out in stores as we haven’t made the final decision yet!
Hey Sahar,
we went with marathon 70 and so far it's great, my son seems very comfortable and happy in it(it's nicely cushioned:) ). Our decision was based on the online reviews and we were also comparing it with other britax car seats with weight limit of 70lbs and height limit of 49in and the price of marathon 70 was much more reasonable than others from Britax. The only thing is it doesn't attach to any stroller and it's big and heavy but so are other car seats with such a big weight/height limit. I think this one will last a couple of years, well hopefully until we need a booster seat. My 7.5 month old is already the size of a 18 month old!!
Anyone used something like this…??
This seems to be the 3 in 1 kinda thing…rear facing, then forward facing and then a booster seat and weight limit goes upto 100 pounds.I think it will be the only car seat you need to buy before the child can wear the seat belts and doesn’t need a car seat/booster.
