Car not starting!

So this is the second time it’s happened this week. Hubby is stuck at the parking lot because his car isn’t starting. A couple of days ago he had the same issue, had to call road side assistance to jump start the car. Initially we thought he might have left the parking lights on by mistake but today it’s happened again. He just called road side assistance :bummer: What can be the problem?? Do we need to get a new battery? :smack: Which one is better to get? He’s calling me and asking to google all these things. I don’t know a thing about cars.
Btw this is a Lexus GS 300.

Re: Car not starting!

what color is the car?

Re: Car not starting!

Why does that matter?? :emmy:

Re: Car not starting!

because if its a brown car, its just lazy. slip a one dollar bill into the a/c vent without looking at it, and start. all will be well.

Re: Car not starting!

I have never seen a brown lexus. It’s not brown. Now if you can’t provide any valuable advice on this then don’t say anything.
You’ve already ruined my Big bang theory watching experience :frowning:

This is a serious problem!!! I need the car to get fixed. He was taking me to on the border tonight

Re: Car not starting!

do you normally see brown objects as brown?

i think this is an easy diagnosis btw - hubby doesn't want to go to on the border tonight.

make some pulao. yay?

Re: Car not starting!

It’s either On the border or bhooke rehna  I don’t think he’s got a choice.

Ok, so is exide a good battery brand?? What is considered the best? I feel so out of place here. :smack:

Re: Car not starting!

does he expect you to google and turn into a car mechanic by afternoon? tell him to be a good boy and take it to a mechanic. :\

Re: Car not starting!

The road side assistance came and jump started it. He took it to walmart :hmmm: Apparently they replace the batteries there .. :konfused:
Ok maybe I was panicking that our car wasn’t working!!! BUT you were no help at all, thank you for nothing, you should be banned from this section.

Re: Car not starting!

Assuming the problem is with the battery/charging system, this is how you narrow down the defective component.
Is the Battery light lit on the cluster? If so, it indicates a charging problem which could mean a defective alternator.

You will need a regular DMM (digital multimeter) to measure voltage across the battery.

With the car running, measure the voltage across the battery.
1) If it's around 14V (or atleast 13.xV) your alternator is good. Then the problem could be a ground wire, battery or something draining the battery while the car is off.
2) If it's less than 14V (it's probably less than 12V) then your alternator is bad. Replace Alternator.

With the car off, measure the voltage across the battery.
1) If it's 12V or higher your battery is good.
2) If it's less than 12V, replace your battery. [If the alternator test failed then the battery might be okay and it's only low because its' not being charged]

Re: Car not starting!

Replace the battery, get a good one that can do cold weather starts, should cost about $90, replace it yourself, it’s very easy. The other, less likely problem could be your alternator, for that, go to the Lexus dealership and have them replace it, it will cost a lot. How old is the car?

Re: Car not starting!

if the car starts on one day and doesn’t on the other, you may need to replace the “Fuel Pump Driver Module”…does the car sometimes stall for a sec and then keeps going? do you see streaks of smoke coming from underneath the hood while driving? if this pump isn’t working properly, it means the FPDM is pumping too much gas and is causing flooding. it will cost around $179 plus labour.

Re: Car not starting!

Buy a new car.
