Peace All
I agree with Nusairee and Afshi on this ... For me the 'ayat of the Qur'an have picturesque artisitic appeal, as well as being reminders for me to remember Allah (SWT) ... it is true that Qur'an was not revealed so the mushaf is to be kept away in high places never to be read ... however, it is also true that when we do store the mushaf when we are not reading it - it should be respected and kept in a lofty place, but we should visit that lofty place often and read from the mushaf often.
I also believe there is barakah in ayat of the Qur'an on display - even when not read actively the subconscious is aware of those verses.
I used to be very much inclined towards the "modern progressive" mode of Islam and saw such things as hocus pocus ... but after being set straight ... not any more ... Alhumdulillah.
The key of understanding is in the idea of all power and might ultimately coming from Allah (SWT), but Allah (SWT) chooses from His creation the vessels of His Blessings and Gifts ... and we can see this is true in every aspect ...
Allah (SWT) did not send Al-Qur'an without Gibreel (AS), and Gibreel (AS) was not sent without Muhammad (SAW), and we did not receive Islam without the Shuyukh, from the Salaf ...
Likewise ... every medicine that cures is a vessel, and the Words of Allah (SWT) are no different ... how do we distinguish between "shirk" and "tauheed"?
Simply placing trust in anything to deliver any power that does not belong to it is shirk. Separating the Power of Allah (SWT) from the Zaat of Allah (SWT) is wrong because He is Ahad (Unity).
We should not believe the doctor cures, or his medicines, but we should thank him for his service to us and recognise shifa' comes from Allah (SWT). No clearer is this when it comes to diseases such as cancer where doctors themselves say we have done what we can and then some people live and others die. Hence the medicine for one person could be a lethal posion for another.

[2:248] ... and the relics left by the family of Moses and the family of Aaron, carried by angels. In this is a symbol for you if ye indeed have faith.
Relics/symbols associated with the Prophet and their noble families carry great significance.
[12:96] Then when the bearer of the good news came, He cast (the shirt) over his face, and he forthwith regained clear sight. He said: "Did I not say to you, 'I know from Allah that which ye know not?'"
Yousuf (as) sent his shirt to his father who miraculously regained his lost eye sight once he rubbed the shirt of his son over over his eyes.
Several other verses in the Quran clearly establish the principle of how the objects associated with pure personalities can have spiritual qualities. If you pay attention then almost all the acts of Hajj are built around the objects associated with Ibrahim (as) and his family.
