I never thought of it that way.
Like say, a person has this hanging thing in his car but he washes his car one day and takes it off. He forgets to put it back on and goes driving someplace. Coincidentally he gets into a car accident and somehow starts getting the idea that it was because he didn’t have it in his car. Therefore after that he makes sure he never takes it off and makes his family members use them too. Things like that which become a ritual with a religious twist, is what I was wondering about. I think that’s the reason why a lot of scholars frown upon the use of Quran when a bride and groom are walking down the aisle.
It reminds me about something I read a long time ago. I don’t know how accurate it is but it was about how idol worshipping started. A very revered, respected elderly guy died and his family members/friends would sit and talk about him and reminisce about him. Then Shaitan put this idea into their minds that maybe it’ll be better to make some sort of a portrait or statue of this guy so it’ll be hard to forget his face etc., then they started telling their children about this guy’s qualities how he was a good guy and everything. Overtime the guys status got even more elevated and people sort of started worshipping it. And other people started doing the same thing, making statues of people they respected etc.
but like you said, it depends on the intentions. As long as people don’t start thinking that it has special powers or something.
almost anything is open to abuse and corruption…as per Quran even ur own families and children can b source of distraction from God…
let me ask u a question…if an ignorant group of ppl go to the Kaaba thinking this is the black box where God physically resides…or shaitaan puts the idea in their mind that this box on its own has power to heal and cure…then does this situation warrant tht the Kaaba be destroyed nauzobillah or does it mean that these ppl are ignorant and need enlightenment and education?
