Inspired by this thread from life1 http://www.paklinks.com/gs/life-and-relationships/520134-near-death-experiences.html where a few people talked about car crashes.

So I’ve noticed how some people have these car hangings of Quranic verses or tasbeehs etc. Is there really any barkat in hanging dua-e-safar in the car but not actually reciting it? And is it degrading to place Quranic verses in random places like this?

I think there is no barkat until we read, recite it. It is same as keeping the Musallah at home but never offered prayerd. Than there is no barkat except its a another piece like a carpet. Degrading is different matter though.
